I'm sure this method is in these posts somewhere.....give it a try. Be sure to spray a ffew coats of Clear or Gloss clear PRIOR. Get a stick of Pastel black chalk.Be sure its CHALK. Scrape a pile of dust with a blade of hobby knife off the pastel into a small container. Add a few drops of water a drop of detergent and a drop of white vinegar. Mix thoroughly to a consistancy you want and apply just as you described in your paint method. Let it dry for 10-15 minutes then remove wit a DAMP piece of kleenex,T.P.,or cue tip. One of the beauties of this method that if you removed too much...put some back on. I love this method. When to your liking preserve with a few coats of clear flat(or gloss). As nothing is foolproof try on an old model first. Hope you like.

Hi, nsclcctl.

As an alternative to the method you're trying, how about the mechanical pencil approach? I think there was a thread quite recently about that. Just draw 'em in!
I prefer that to trying to clean up all that slop.

I've seen great results from both methods, but given a choice, I'll always take the easier of the two!

Testors makes a product called dried paint solvent. It's for acryl is says on the label, but it will take off enamels pretty easily as well. If you dampen a qtip with it, and rub lightly, it will take off the dried acrylic, and if you're not careful, it will take off the enamel as well. Course, the future may help keep that from happening. This stuff works, but it is powerful. It only costs a couple of bucks, and it will solve your problem, it also has a pretty nice smell compared to most of this kinda stuff.

I do my panel lines with just enough black paint to dirty the water ,the solution is probably at least 10:1.
it takes a bit longer to dry but if I dont like it , its easy to clean up

Acrylics do dry real fast, and when they are dry, they are, well, dry! That's why I use either artist oils or artist watercolours for that sort of work. The first type will take days to dry allowing you to re-work areas you're not happy with. The second allow you to 'erase' (with water) whatever is wrong (all it will not react with either enamels or acrylics underneath).

Now as to remove those black acrylic marks... Light sanding down sounds a bit drastic... Have you tries to remove the marks with denatured alcohol? I'm not sure it would work, but it may be worth a try...

please teach me a new trick, correctly. For the life of me, I cannot do panel lines. Case in point, 1:48 Dauntless. Painted in enamels, tricolr scheme, very nice I might add. Sprayed 2 coats of future, let it dry 24hrs.

Mixed 1 part acrylic flat black and 2 parts water, nie and thinn, three drops of detergent. Total volume, about 5 mls.

Fine brush in the panel lines over the cowel and on the bottom side of the horizontal rudder. Black flowed nicely into the lines. Black smudged the enamel paint. Tried to start wiping it up, forget it, it is dry and in the paint. Used a damp rag, used a cue tip, no luck, panel lines and surreunding area is smudged black. What in the world am I doing wrong? For one thing, I should work this out on something else, my mistake. But, I thought I had read enough posts to tell me how to do it. I am wrong, I can't do it for some inexplicable reason. Other than that, the Dauntless is gorgeous.
