Cool pictures. The second to last aircraft, "310", is a plane that I used to maintain. The light colored spots all over the aircraft are not part of the paint scheme. The aircraft is suffering from corrosion. They have mechanicly removed it, and primed the areas to prevent more from coming back. I assume that they are waiting for the airshow season to end before taking the time to paint it. I am in no way, shape or form involved in that cluster ####. I would never send such a beautiful aircraft out on the airshow circuit in that condition Angry [:(!]Angry [:(!]Angry [:(!]...what a shame!

Ah yes...I would love to have a nice digi-cam. All of the ones that I am drawn to cost more than most of my cars ever haveBig Smile [:D]! I have a Minolta Maxxum 5 and I try to burn a lot of "rounds" with it. I have a lot of pics of different planes...I am very amateur though, still trying to see what works best. A photographer friend of mine told me that my composition is pretty good, I just need to work on some of my settings. I posted a few pics on USMCRon's site, they are under Reference/Aircraft/Airshows. There are also five of them that are (or at least were) by themselves and they are all of the Dayton Air Show. If you like them and would like to see more let me know.

what is the advantage of flat white vs glossy white on these planes? Why would they choose to do both?

Nice pics muzzleflash. I was at a small airshow in Lancaster, OH this past saturday and took a lot of shots. No pyros or anything, just a lot of flying! They had the DH Venom, PBY, and a bunch of other stuff. I burnt 6 rolls at Lancaster and 10 at Dayton, I got a lot of decent ones from Dayton and hope to get a lot from Lancaster. How much film did you burn?

In picture #3, what exactly are the colors we are seeing?

That's the low-vis Atlantic Theater anti-sub scheme #2 which was adopted for USN aircraft with the issuing of Specification SR-2e in June, 1944. The top color is Non-Specular Dark Gull Gray, the side color is Non-Specular Insignia White and the bottom color Glossy Insignia White. I dunno if this particular warbird has the two whites, but that's the scheme as specified by the USN at the time...

OK, I have 2 accurate avengers to build. One will be tricolor Pacific and one will be Atlantic. I love that atlantic scheme.

I believe that is dark gull gray over white, the Atlantic anti-sub scheme.

GREAT composition in the second photo ! The reflected flames, the integration of flames & smoke with the clouds, and the relationship of the smoke to the hill ! Nice framing ! WELL DONE !

That was MY HOUSE they hit..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![:0]Tongue [:P]Wink [;)]
Man I always loved the Avenger. I think the sexiest scheme on an Avenger would have to be the Atlantic scheme hands down.
Ok ok I think the over all sea blue looks cool tooTongue [:P]
