B-24's: J or D -which would you prefer to build?
Posted by Aurora-7 on Monday, August 18, 2003 12:18 PM
In all praticality, I'll probably only build on of my 1/48 Monogram kits and sell the other. But which should I keep? I like the J with all it's guns but I also like that big glazed nose look of the D model.

I like the J with the nose turret. Maybe it's a "grass is greener" thing, since I've only built the D!

I recommend building the D and selling the J to me, I have been wanting one for a year or two. Joking aside, I prefer to build the D. I love the looks of the smooth nose. Either one is a good choice.

Even though I would build the D, I wouldn't let go of the J. Who knows when it will be re-released. The D is being re-released this month by Revell Germany. It probably wouldn't do you much good to try and sell the D now.

I like the the "D" as well. Something about the glass nose on that plane....

If I read correctly, the "J" was made at Willow Run outside of Detroit. I hope it is true because my gramdma worked on the line during WWII making aircraft. Just been thinkg about my family lately. Only sis and bro still with me here.Great memories of all tho.

I personally would do the J, just because my great uncle was the bombadier in one during WWII. And the guns are cool, too.

Tongue [:P]personally I'd build both, the Libby is my favorate "Heavy" of WWII over the Fort, and there are more types of schemes then the Fort to paint her too, she fought on more front then to ole Fort too. Not to boast the ole Libby but she carried more load, faster, farther then the ole Fort and was inroled to do more thing then the Fort too, she built as a transport, bomber, patrol bomber (Navy's), flying tanker (over the Hump for CBTO), and was moded for special transport for FDRBig Smile [:D]
so I'd build both and maybe get a few more for all fronts of the war and all roles tooTongue [:P]

Yup, Libby's a good 'un, but I don't think she could take a punch quite like Ye Olde Forte!

Sounds like someone needs to buy a ticket for a ride on the cluetrain. Tongue [:P] Sheesh, such hostility in the world these days...

Anyhoo, since you don't want humor and only opinions, my choice would be to keep the 'J'. But then I'd probably do something different than most folks and convert it to a carpetbagger...

There, I gave you an opinion.

The only good Libby's I've seen are the ones from Academy they have D's, H's & J's and they are just like the ole Monograms but smaller and have recessed lines and look great when finished

The D, and when I finally post my diorama you'll understand why...

Auroar &..I've got an old 1/72 B-24 by Revell. I got it by mistake, because I onle like to buile 1/48. The box is still wrapped but has a hole in the top. It's the "Convair B-24 Liberator"n the warbird box kit #H-203. If you want to contact me through e-mail we could talk about a price if you want to buy it.

I prefer the D myself, mainly because my grandfather was a tail gunner on one. Flew to Ploesti in August 43. But, thats just my opinion.
