is that the Testor's P-47 Warp-O-Bolt with the super detailed cockpit pieces included at no extra charge? :-)
(joystick and seat)

my buddy has one (built!)
he said there was enough flash on the pieces to either:
a) make a second t-bolt in 1/72 scale
or b) use as raw material to detail several kits.

but he found it made an excellent test bed for trying out Gabreski's (sp) tricky camo over bare metal underside w/ invasion strips.
the only thing you can waste is the paint. :-)

good luck,
ed.

I think that the rule of thumb is , if you can build one of these old kits and make it look like an airplane, you can call yourself a modeller. I have an old model mag from around 1967 that had a guy who built about twenty of the Hawk P-51 kits. They looked pretty good then. Imagine what that guy could do with a Tamiya or Accurate Miniatures kit?

Here here Aleksander,

I agree with you... if it weren't for those bad kits, there's a LOT of Modelling we would miss! The type modelling where you put yourself into it, even using unconventional means to obtain satisfactory results.

Thank God for all those old Airfix kits (with their jelly-jar bottom transparencies), it makes us appreciate the good kits a whole lot better! Wink [;)]

I have the same problem with my Smer Re 2000 - it doesn't fit, has a lot of flash and many details are simplified - but I should say I like such a situation a little - when I improve the kit and when it become a "model" at last, I'm always very proud ! I don't know why I always make better models from worse kits ? Maybe I don't care about them so much (at least they are cheaper !) and it's because I can "experiment" with them without fear to destroy them ! Aleksander

Tongue [:P]hey Al;
Testors U-2 is okay(because it's the only one in 1/48 scale) but there are aftermarket kits to get the kit right on track and after you get those then you need to scribe the panel lines, and then you'll have a great model, the old Hawk kits where fine in there day but you'd hope someone would come up with a new version of their old runs, I suggest you check out greatmodels.com or even Squadron models they have a ausome selection of kits in all scales & typesTongue [:P]
good luck

Are there any Testors kits worth building?
The U-2 I built turned out okay (though I'm not sure how accurate it is) but the F-5 was very simplified (I do know that is a very old kit)
I bring most of my kits back from the U K, the only choice here (Riyadh) nowadays is Airfix or the odd Testors kit.

I don't know but all I seem to be looking at these days are the Tamiya boxes. Great subjects, great fit, nice instructions and good decals. I am sold at least for the moment. I stayed away as I began because of price. Built many of the ones from Testors , built the P51 you are talking about. Then, I saw the light. The extra cash is worth it for detail and nice fit. Nice fit is key to me. I also build accurate when I can find them. I think they are the best with Tamiya second.

Could it be that I got a practise model here? Doesn't really matter how it turns out? I'll still try the aluminum "color" spray paint on it. Or, maybe, have it shot down? (bullet holes, fire, etc.?) The WPAFB Museum was even better than it was 20 (gulp) years ago. Am I that old now!? As far as a hobby shop in the area: The closest one you can't even walk through! It's a mess and finding what you want is hit or miss! ( say... YUK! 3 times!) I'll probably travel to vestal, N.Y. to find something. Hope GJ's has more than just R.C..

Testors... Run for your life! Bad kit! Bad kit!

If you can tell, I don't like them. Great for 5 year olds who don't care about accuracy, or detail, or fit, or if it looks like the subject....

Just remember that this kit is the old Hawk offering that dates back to the early 60's. Don't be too surprised too much at the fit or lack of it. Lee's right. Grab the Tamiya kit and you'll have a mnuch better build.

What did you think of the US Air Force Museum?Smile [:)]Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P] I see that your profile shows NY. To bad there is a decent Hobby Shop 15 minutes from there. Good collection of Iterli (sp), Academy, Revell/Mongram, and Hasagawa (sp) At least they did when I left 13 months ago.

sp = spelling for those that do not know

I think we have the same kit. Is it the one to build with the Tuskegee Airmen option #520?. If so good luck, after spending a lot of time on it I needed a break, 2 month break that is, its currently on display in my closet. Anyway, once & good luck......

I have not built that particular kit but you might want to consider removing some or all of the locating pins.
