Dai,

I really appreciate that, but don't want you to go through the trouble!!
Besides, I took this weekend to finish the little beast. It acually came out better than I thought it would, aside from the ill fit and serious sink marks.
I can't find my ZoomBrowser EX software for my camera or I would've uploaded some photos by now(curses! grrrrrr!). But I will post them, oh yes, I will!
I decided to go ahead and go with the Czek version(its all aluminum = easy to work with for a trial run!), but I wouldn't mind building one in the Polish camo scheme.
Anyway, hopefully I can get the photos posted on here and share it with everybody!

Got on to the Australian Museum of Flight(the old Fleet Air Arm Museum) last night and can report that they have a MiG15UTI (Lim2 which is the Polish designator I think). Their web site has a picture of this a/c in Polish markings but it is not all that clear. Their site also gives the serial number. If you like I will give them a ring and ask what photos they have and at what cost.
I would go down myself as it is only a 150 miles but I have a broken back and need somebody to do some of the driving. A friend of mine will be back from sea in about a month,he is Chief Engineer on a bulkie, and he would probably drive me as he is a private pilot and a model aircraft builder.

Yeah, Gregers, your not kidding about the fit!!
I got the wings on last night and have to go get some new sanding sticks to file down the gaps that I filled. I can see why you want to leave it! But now its become an obsession!
Its gonna be completed---OH YES, IT WILL!!
This is one that will have photos posted if I don't run it over with my truck first.
Cool little subject though!

Hi Carlos, i know what you mean with this kit as i have one almost complete (its been that way for years) i wouldn't bother with the rivets and would sand them off anyway as in 1/72 you wouldn't see any rivets- just stand far enough away from a real a/c so it looks the same size as a 1/72 kit and you wont see the rivets at all-i didn't complete the kit as i was fed up with straightening parts and filling sink marks but i don't know if this is the same as all the mig15's and its the only KP kit that i have worked on. good luck.....Greg Cool [8D]

Aleksander,

How did you get around the raised rivets? I used putty to fill in the gaps and sanded as carefully as I could(should have used a sanding stick honestly), but still lost some of the detail.
I did however make contact with Dai, who is out in Australia, and got some great info.
I'll definetly test fit the landing gear pefore the final assebly!

I know this model quite well - I've made it about ten years ago for my son - I think, there are at least two things need correction- first - as all MIGs-15, it should "sit " more on it's main gear with tail closer to the ground - and - for Polish version the cockpit canopy isn't correct. If you have friends in New South Wales (Australia), you can also ask them for pictures of MIG-15 UTI from Nowrra Naval Base Museum !

Kp kits are old(ish) but probably the best in terms of accuracy, if you can live or do something about raised panel lines, that is. I've never built the UTI, but I did build the MiG-15, the -17, the -19 and the -21 from their catalogue and had a great time with each of them.

Dai, yeah I can wait till Monday! I'm still detailing the cockpit and scribing the flaps and such.

Migs, thats about how I want to do mine(decided to go witht he Czek decals thoug). Thanks for the link! Thats acutally the exact same kit, so the comments help out tremendously.

Unnamedplayer, yeah, it turns out that it is fairly recent. I did a google search and found the company's web site:

The hobby shop where I got mine had 4 left. For only $5 each I figue it might be kinda fun to make a little squadron!

There is still one question though. In that link the UTI is all clean, and I want mine to be dirty. Should I sludge wash it? Mind you, not to the point of obscuring detail, but so that it looks like its seen some wear.

I THINK its a fairly recent kit. not sure tho

and does anyone have parts for a mig 15 cockpit for trumpter 1/32? like a resin or a bunch of good drawings? i can exchange for excelent drawings of mig 3 1/32 ACCURATE and 1/48 arangements. these plans are very accuret, i drew them and took maybe 50 hrs for reaserch and 10 for th actual drawing. scales out very nicely, almost perfect.

The only MiG15 that I am aquainted with is dead smooth! Not a rivit hump and only the faintest of panel lines. The aircraft is in the Australian War Memorial Museum.
There are Two MiG15UTIs at Bankstown Aerodrome at the Australian Aircraft Museum. They have a web site but I don't know the correct designator.
I will ring them and get it if you can wait til Monday. My computer will be down over the weekend dut moving of HO.

Hey guys!
I've been slowly but surely working on a Mig-15 UTI that I purchased and need some tips.

First; some background on the kit:
Its made by Kovozavody Prostejov(from Czekoslovakia),
1/72 scale,
parts don't have any numbers--but the parchement-like instruction sheet has them listed,
has poor fit,
raised panel lines and rivets(not unlike Lindeberg--grrrr....),
and REALLY bad grammar in the technical info section(quote from it: Thanks to unselfish help of Soviet Union, the series production of MiG-15s under licence condidtions started. --Seriously, just like that!).
Second; its a very cool subject, and it was only five bucks over at my local hobby shop.

I guess what I'm getting at is this:
Has anyone built this kit before?
Has anyone even seen the kit that I'm talking about? If so, is this a classic kit? (its got to be at least 25 years old---or at least they just kept manufacturing it in the same manor)
How do I go about weathering something that has raised panel lines and rivets when it is going to be painted aluminum?

I know this may be a mountain out of a mole hill, but if you could only see the plastic you would understand what I mean!
Any suggestions?
