Yeah, maybe a flat white, darkened just a touch so it's not so bright.
I don't know much about whitewash on aircraft, but the whitewash snow camo on the armor was usually applied quite haphazardly with brushes, mops, brooms, or whatever they could use to transfer the paint. You don't have to worry about brush marks, for sure!
Also, that paint was usually poorly thinned with water, gasoline, or whatever, so the adhesion wasn't great, and it easily wore off and became shabby in no time.

What aircraft or armored vehicle are you gonna do?

yes the aircraft wore a whitewash of sorts. It was painted over the camoflage paint scheme. Check references for that period and then apply a thin coat of white. If you look back in the FSM archives you will find an article on the subject. I think it was done in the june 1997 issue. search in that general era in the feature stories section and you should find it.

don't fly harder than you fight, you'll loose!
Take this plastic and model it!

While it requires more work, the most convincing winter schemes that I've seen were first painted in the "standard" camo first, then selectivly covered in off-white. A quicker alternative to this is to paint the white first, then spray selective areas the color of the underlying camo. Areas of wear, such as leading edges, walkways, and protrusions would lose their white at a faster rate. Either of these methods can yield a natural-looking white camo. I hope this helps !

IPMS Stockholm has a good article on this very subject. Click onto their HELPDESK and then under Painting and Weathering and you will find an article called Painting Realistic Winter Camouflage. I think that you will find this helpful. Wink [;)]
