Here's a couple of samples of modern nose art I've taken pictures of, both on KC-10 tankers:

"Asian Flew" 22 Air Refueling Wing, March AFB, 1992

"Black Knight" 68 Air Refueling Wing, Seymour Johnson AFB, 1990

Hi,

Our website has Nose Art pictured for most of the B-29's with the 444th Bomb Group in WWII. www.444thbg.org

Lots of great Nose Art is pictured (many in COLOR!!! Big Smile [:D]). I'm currently building a 1:144 scale Superfortress with the Nose Art & historically acurate markings of "Here's Hopin'" of the 678th Bomb Squadron on Tinian in 1945.

I hit submit too soon,
My sons model GR1 (1/72) had some really tame nose art on it, but in the book the same aircraft was a bit pornographic (for some.).
In reading, we found out the CO made them paint a bikini on the art for a big wig inspection.
When in the service we tried to paint our helos with some 'tasteful' art, but were shot down by the female pilot, there was no nudity in the picture and another female crewman designed it and began the painting. We settled for a Canadian Flag as we were in Canadian waters. . .this offended the boat CO. . .you can't win playing the PC game.

I know it's only rock and roll, but I like it.

Nose art by it's very nature was supposed to be racy!
Now if the CO was not the type to approve, you may end up with some really PC stuff on the nose, but for the most part. . .
Also, remember in the WWII era, the Betty Grable pin up was considered a bit on the racy side, and others of topless women were out right pornographic!!
I have a book titled "Aircraft Nose Art" by J.P.Wood. It covers Nose Art from WWI to the First Gulf War, the usually stoic Brits had some pretty mature designs on their Gr1 Tornados!

I've got a gallery of 380th BG nose art in the File Cabinet on one of my websites, if anyone would care to check it out...

My apologies in advance for all the pop-ups. Also, the site will be undergoing a major transformation in the coming weeks...

For those of you who are interested in creating thier own nose art,
There is a program called poser that would allow you to poser a figure
(a 3d barbie or ken) and render accordingly for print and decalling - the minute I've got some time, I'll show you what I mean
3d modelling is an option a true mental excercise in frusrtation

Have you found any pics of Nose Art that you would like to share ? (There are a lot of provocative ones out there, so lets be mindful of the younger modelers) The pic on the left is by Tony Starcer, a member of the 91st Bomb Group of the 8th A.F. He also painted "Mount 'N Ride," and "Memphis Belle," among many others. I find the B-29 art very interesting & personal. Rather than adorn their craft with a fantasy figure, they chose to portray themselves. So what do you have to share ?
