                        I am making a display for a 1/48 F-15 and and posing it landing on Langley AFB's Rwy 8, which is a grooved ILS runway. What would be the best way of making the grooves in the rwy and what would be the best material to use. Does someone make sheets of runway surfaces.

                        Because a 1/48 runway would have to be over 3 ft. wide (150 ft.), the runway is actually in about 1/100 scale (I figure even though it is not to scale it will give the illusion of the aircraft being at a greater height).

                        Does this mean it needs to be 208 ft long too, since Langley's runway is 10,000 ft long? Smile [:)] Evergreen plastic has grooved sheets but they are only 8 x10 ". You may need to find a plastic dealer, look in the phone book under plastics to see if there are any around you and see what they have.

                        If this going to be a contest entry you may want to call the shows before you go. A lot of shows aren't real happy when one entry takes up an entire table and may not let you enter it.

                        No, Im just modeling it from the threshold to the touchdown marks at 1000 ft. In theory, I'll have the a/c coming down on the glideslope suspended over the runway. The board I'm using is about 1 ft. X 3 ft.

                        And for your other question, this isnt for a contest. I am a commercial pilot and have alway wanted to model a runway. You don' t happen to know which direction runway grooves run? I believe it is diagonal but I'm not sure, maybe I should go actually fly!
