Blue Angels
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, August 29, 2003 10:19 AM
I am starting a 1/48 scale history of the Blue Angels Aircraft for my 7 year old son. He is a Blue Angels Fanatic. Unforunately my histort involves the U.S. Air Force. Does anyone have a list of references for photos of the Blue Angels? I am looking for the cockpit of the A-4 Skyhawk and any photos of the F-8 Bearcat. These are my currnet projects.

P.S. I would like to have a photo of the gentleman who made the F-8 Crusader in the Blue Angels scheme. Great job. I recently watched an f-8 fly into Ellington Field in Houston, TX last month.

Thanks ahead of time!

There are many books about the Blue Angels and a few could really help you in your project. Squadron Signal Publication has a special title on the subject. There are (many little) mistakes in the colour drawings and picture legends but altogether, in terms of pictorial record, it is very good (the edition I have still only covers 1946-early 80s, before they went with the Hornet). That book is writen by Jin McGuire and it has the SSP code 6030.

Another GREAT reference is Reflections of Blue, a Pictorial History of the US Navy Blue Angels, by Carol Knotts, Speciality Press, isbn 0933424248. It covers the period 1946-80. It has great pics of the Bearcat by the way!

Both those books were of great help when I did MY history of the Blues in models, back in 85-86...

There must be thousand of websites devoted to the subject, including the official one...

Good luck, and keep us updated on your progress.
