This is a Tamiya kit in 1/48 scale and is my first time trying the pre-shading technique. I found the grey shading too wide on the panel lines so went back and airbrushed with pure white. Did some minor drybrushing on upper surfaces and have already applied future to said surfaces. Normally I would have painted the light blue (hellblau 65) surfaces first, but when I opened my paintbox that particular paint bottle was empty so carried on while that colour is on order.

I only have one photo reference for the particular aircraft I'm attempting to build, so most of my reference will be based on generalized writings as to how III/JG26 109's appeared in mid to late August, 1940. Some might note too a slight variation on the wing camou pattern. This I found illustrated in two different books so I decided to go with it.

Cutting Edge does have a decal set for this particular aircraft, but for some reason has omitted the vertical gruppen 'I' bar - I plan to add it anyways unless someone can tell me which is correct.

okies, here's an update .... next will be adding decals, another coat of Future and then a wash. (that blue came out very bright in the photo, but I assure you it's a very dull hue on the model)

Looks pretty groovy. Haven't been able to find any other photos of this 109, which is frustrating. And just to confuse things a bit more, there's evidence that III./JG 26 used the wavy bar marking either instead of or in addition to the vertical bar during the period you're studying. It's also quite possible that this aircraft didn't carry a gruppe marking, but not likely.

I'll keep trying to find something for 'ya, and keep us updated on this!
