How do you build Navy aircraft???
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, September 2, 2003 2:43 AM
I'll try to narrow down this poll to the "landed" (gear down) aircraft, so how do you prefer to build your Navy birds (at 1/72... or any other scale, no matter!!!)

If you do like to make a mix of any of the suggestions, take a nearest pick, or point it on the post....

Really hard to pick only one choice.... Depends on the model, depends on the reference material, depends on the mood... But one thing is certain, I like them either in the white/grey scheme with lots of colourful markings or in blue as in Blue Angels!

you didn't have my fully closed, partially armed, no rbf tags, crew playing volleyball, ground crew taking afternoon tea option!

Cheers,

I agree. Am I the only one who finds "lo-viz" camo BORING to model or look at.

I guess I'm boring too!
I think low-viz is cool.

Maybe it's because I'm not only boring, I'm lazy as well!Big Smile [:D]

I like the lo-vis, too, but many squadrons are going back to the hi-vis schemes, at least partially. I like to have the modern birds with all of the avionics bays open, but very rarely will you find one with the airbrakes open while sitting on the deck.

(Maybe it should have been part of the poll!!Tongue [:P]) Put me down
for the high-viz color schemes. I especially like the colorful
1930's schemes, with the silver fuselage, yellow wings, etc.

Another thought occurs to me - the only time my wife has had any comments on my aircraft was to note the high-vis schemes and say, "I like that one over there."Smile [:)]

I have only built one navy aircraft so far, but I will be putting some together...3 PBY's mostly, a helldiver, dauntless, and a TBF. I will probably be asking the experts here some questions then.

FYI, all squadrons of Navy fighters have 1 aircraft that they paint out with glosses and hi-vis markings to be used as a "show plane." This is usually the CAG's and Squadron Commander's plane, as most others won't fly it. You can tell it's designation by the A/C # being a multiple of 100. Go hi-vis with modern A/C, and still be historically accurate!

I know that in many regards I'm an old codger but i like the WW2 colours on navy a/c especially the Nth Atlantic. Then come the early post was RN/RAN colours.
