gluing canopes

I usually glue my canopies shut, because i model in 1/72 scale and there isn't much detail, I will have to made a couple with the canopy open, because I lost the parts.

I tend to go both ways with my canopies. I usually have the cockpit open if there is good detail, and even if there isn't I think it just looks more interesting. However, anytime that I have crew members, the canopy is usually closed...for obvious reasons. But there are those models whose canopies have come off with the passage of time and it is often difficult to reattach them in the open position... so those are all closed now.

I usually use Elmers white glue for my canopies, but it it needs extra strength, I will use a conservative amount of plastic cement. If used properly you can avoid frosting, but it usually isn't worth the risk.

I'm a closer of canopies - probably just because it's easier and I've sometimes had unfortunate outcomes when painting the canopy separate from the rest of the plane (Different shades through airbrushing plane and hand painting canopy - yes, I'm lazy at times...) To glue those canopies then, I use white glue also for all of the reasons noted in the post a bit further up. My understanding, though, is that you can use white glue as a more temporary fixative so if you want to undo them you might be able to... I'm prepared to be wrong on this last point.

well I use Micro Scales Kristal Kleer, it's like white glue but is a little bit stronger and it also drys clear and glossy, but I also use it for instrament faces too and you could form it to fill small gaps too and it's paintable, as for the positon of the canopys I'd prefer them open and replace the ones that are 1 piece with aftermarket canopies and they are more realistic for the scale I do

Ilike to display my models with a open canopy. For those kits that do not allow for a open canopy I start to do a little cutting and create my own open canopy. This takes a little practice to get right. But I always glue all the parts down using white glue since it dries clear.

Almost every model I complete has an open canopy. The few that I close is only for the reason that the cockpit is really lacking in detail, or I messed something up pretty bad. A closed display case is a great remedy against my 5 cats.

My canopies are always stuck to the model (in fact I do glue everything... Anything loose tend to fall off after a while! I use PVA (wood) glue. It can be smoothed over with a damp finger or Q-tip, dries transparent and fills little gaps.
