Read the bottle, each type of alcald has a different primer requirement. Some call for Gloss Black Lacquer, others for Gloss Grey Acrylic and others still call for something different. I use different shades of black/grey to get panel variations and only a single type of alclad.

according to alclads manual for the polished aluminium first coat with the grey primer (acrylic or automotive) when dry san and polish it a little the spray a gloss black acrylic or automotive when dry check for further blemishes if not spray alclad in two slight mists when this is dry you can polish it..
Mind when you use the chrome finish use enamel gloss black

Hey TES;
when I had to do some filling on a kit I was going to polish for a Natural Metal finish I'd use gloss White, but I've seen alot of people use Gloss Black, and one person used any gloss color they had at that time, and the NM finish was beautiful after they where done, so you could use just about any gloss under coating, it's just there to make the filler not as absorbant to the Alclad paint, and it's easier to polish a gloss surface then a rough surface

Hey Tracy, only article I can recall reading on Alclad 2 just said any good gloss black and I believe the writer said he used Testors Model Master gloss black.

What is best for Alclad 2 polished aluminum undercoat? One source I have states automotive high gloss black,another says to use gloss black acrylic.???
