Middlesboro, KY air show
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, September 7, 2003 10:05 PM
what an awesome sight to see the "Glacier Girl" in the air. There was another P-38 there, Porky II, and they flew formation, and i had a chill when they "strafed" the runway, wing tip to wing tip. Also flying...a P-40; Hellcat; Corsair and a Ryan PT 20 trainer. I got a chance to thank Roy Schofner, the money behind the Glacier Girl Recovery. What a gentleman.

Cuda, the other 38 was Porky II. i believe all four of the other planes that were there were from Planes of Fame in California. I didnt get any pix of the fly bys (damned battery was dead by that time), but i do have some other pix, if i can ever figure out how to post them on here

Hey Huskerguy;
join the club I'm still trying to figure that one out myself, I got some great pix of Hawgs here in Iraq but I can't seem to get them on line here,
but when you do figure it out please tell me how, as for the Airshow what else was there besides the A/C from Planes of Fame?, did they have any other planes fly and perform?, I've missed this years Airshow at Whiteman AFB but hopefully I'll catch it next year, but I've been in an airshow since March of this year and now it's getting old for the media so we just passed into history for now like all good stories,

Hey Huskerguy,
If I'm not mistaken, "Porky II" was originally an over all natural metal 38 named "Joltin Josie"(it had a lightning bolt under the name).
I liked her in her original scheme but Porky II's scheme stands out more I feel.

Cuda, this was a very small air show...only maybe 2-3000 people there on Sunday. No other planes came in other than small private planes. Butz, i dont know the history of Porky II, but both she and the Glacier Girl were painted light gray understructure and OD on top. I talked to a guy who has been to Oshkosh for the past 6 years, and he says it absolutely awesome. Some of his figures seemed a little distorted though...lol
