Stearman question???
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, September 8, 2003 12:44 PM
Can anyone reccommend a Boeing Stearman model in either 1/48 or 1/32. I want to build one for my Grandpa but I have never looked into these kits and I don't know who makes a good one. Thanks in advance.

The only one so far in 1/48 is the Lindberg. None in 1/32 scale at present. In 1/72 scale, only Revell and Pavla. Pretty slim pickin's for such an important aircraft.

Thanks for the info, and WOW, a reply from Paul Boyer. That just made my day!

Also in 1:87 (H.O. scale) by Williams (I think...).

The Pavla kit has two engines and quite a few decal options. Builds up well. Paul is correct in that only Lindberg has a 1/48 kit of the Stearman.

Thanks to all for the replies. I can't believe there aren't more Stearman models available. I have only built one bi-plane, and that was just for fun. But now that I have spent a couple days looking for 1915-1936 A/C, I am suprised at how few kits are out there.

NWilliams:

Go here: http://www.airshowmodels.com/

This company is doing a series of 1/32 scale resin aerobatic aircraft. They will be doing a Stearman that can be built either as a "Super Stearman" airshow airplane, or stock trainer.

Not exactly on the availability of kits but I can see that eventually you will need info on the a/c for detailing so....
Flying Scale Models Nov/Dec 2001 has a walk around photo spread (8 pages including three view drawings cockpit dias and colour pics) of a P13B and C.
If you can't obtain a copy I can photo copy and fax/post to you. If you would prefer you can have the mag> I don't need it and my wife would be so pleased!!

Dai,

Thanks for the offer, but I have the mag (somewhere) already. If I don't win any Stearman bids on e-bay, I am going to buy one of the Chech. bi-planes at my local hobby store.
