Need help sourcing 3 blade prop's for 1/48 Grumman Goose
Posted by Mark T Gold Coast on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 6:12 AM

My wife bought me a 1/48 Czech Model Grumman Goose.

I'd love to build this as 'Cutter's Goose' but the kit only comes with a 2 blade prop.

Does anyone know where I could find a suitable pair of 3 bladed props and spinners?

Thanks for your help

Those are reversible (sp?) Hartzells on that Goose. Two thoughts, scrounge up an old Monogram Albatross and use those props. Wrong props and you would need to thin down the blades, and you could hide the hub under the spinner. On the spinner, good luck. Maybe someone else has a better idea. If memory serves, the Goose had 450 P&W on it. Both the PBY and the Albatross have 1820s on them. So what ever you would use would need to have a modified blade and hub. I can't think of a kit with a 3 blade seaplane prop on it.

The Testors 1/48th OV-10A Bronco has three-bladed props and spinners that look "right." And the kit is inexpensive enough that you don't mind consigning the rest of it to your spare parts stash. (Or mail it to Madman Eddie Miller for one of his crazy kitbashes! Big Smile [:D] )

By the way, the Signifer Goose also comes with the earlier, two-blade props, so that's not the answer to building an accurate "Cutter's Goose."

Also, have you noticed that there's a 1/48th model of Bon Chance Louie's Citroen available?

Thanks for the heads up on the Bronco.

I'm about to start searching stores here in Australia as the cost of shipping to this tiny little island is about 4 times the cost of the kit.

Thanks again.

Testors OV-10A Bronco props are exactly what you want. I used them for my Alaskan Goose conversion.

Thanks Matt.

I'm hot on the trail of some local ones. Should that not work then there is always e-bay.

Cheers
