Pitts Special

Does anyone market a Pitts of any scale?
What I would especially like is Betty Skelton's Pitts "Lil Stinker"

If scale is not a factor and you can't find it in plastic, try a balsa RC kit built as a static model.
Good luck!

Smer had a 1/72 scale kit at one time. Take a look:

http://www.greatmodels.com/

eBay only has radio controlled and/or flying versions available. Good luck with the search.

Hey Tracy,
I am not sure which rag I saw it in, it may have been Scale Aviation Modeller but it was an ALL resin Pitts Special in 1/32 scale.
It also included white metal and photo etched parts. They gave you a few optional schemes too.
I think the price tag was around $150 or so.

There was a 1/48 scale kit of a Pitts Special released some years ago. It was a white metal model and reviewed in the Airfix Magazine.
Danna Bell (of FSM) may be able to help on this one as I think he may have been the reviewer.

Some years ago (1960's) L.S. had a 1/72 Pitts S2A kit. In that scale it is really tiny and I don't recall what the decal options are. I have one of these kits stashed away down in the garage.

I'm not sure that I will ever build it, and besides, by this time it is probably a collector kit. Blush [:I]

Tracy:

Go Here: http://www.airshowmodels.com/

They are the company that produces the 1/32 resin Pitts kits. Right now they have out several variants of the S-2, and eventually they will be bringing out the S-1S. Not sure, but I think they may be considering options to allow the S-1S to be built as an earlier flat-wing/2-aileron airplane (S-1C). The markings for "Little Stinker" would be nice. Did you know that the NASM recently finished restoring "Little Stinker" ? See below:

I would eventually like to build models of Bob Herendeen's S-1C N66Y and S-1S N266Y.

Jim,
I have been in touch with airshow models. They are supposed to notify me when S1-S comes out.Haven't been to NASM to see "Little Stinker"<but I saw it at an airshow in Waycross,Ga. in
about 1948.As a 16 year old I fell helplessy in LOVE with Betty and the Pitts. Saw my first jet at same show.A Lockeed P-80 "Shooting Star" Soloed in J-3 cub that same summer.
What a summer!

Tracy:

I fell in love with the Pitts in late 1966 - saw Bob Herendeen's Pitts S-1C N66Y at the airport in Compton, California. This was right after Bob had been the highest placing American pilot at the world aerobatic championships, and had won the US national aerobatic chamionship for the first time.

Note the similarity to the paint scheme on Little Stinker. I understand the EAA museum has N66Y and is planning to refurbish it. The Pitts is my second all-time favorite airplane - the P-47 Thunderbolt being number one.

That LS kits markings are for the Canadian Reds.

I had one of the Aeroclub 1/32nd S-1S vac form kits over 20 years ago. It left a lot to be desired I felt.

I believe the LS 1/72nd kit was also available in the Rothmans team markings as well. A 1/72nd Pitts is so small that I am thinking that if I ever build mine I will hang it from the rear view mirror of my car ( as apposed to fuzzy dice ).

Jim, it is funny that you mention that, because the kit comes with a foam stand that is intended to mount the model on your car dash. I am not pulling your leg! Tongue [:P]
