i bought some photo etch details for my fw 190. i'm working on the instruments and i was wondering if sanding the original panel before adding the PE parts would be the best way to get everything to fit right. i have the instrument film too, and i just needed to make sure if i was going about this the right way. thank for your responses.

The P.E./ film combo sometimes doesn't leave much room for the CA or epoxy. In these cases, I usually will back it with a piece of sheet styrene, trimmed to fit. That way, I have the original panel in case I get a kit that needs a better one than is included in the box. Hope this helps !

I'm with Pix on this, I recently put an Eduard PE cockpit in a 1/72 F-4 by putting the etched part over the kit instrument panel, and then found that it stopped the fuselage going together as it was meant to.

I've just tried a Cutting Edge resin cockpit for the first time, having only ever used resin for conversion parts in the past, and I'm converted. If there's a choice, I'm going for resin over PE every time in future

Even tho I have several resin detail sets in my parts box, I haven't really tried to use them. I think PE offers a relatively easier way of detailing for some people who are still intimidated of those resin sets that need to be sawed off their blocks *grins.*

But yeah, sanding the panel sounds right but I would also suggest you use a styrene sheet as a backing. The original panel can go to you parts box for what future projects may bring.

Yo, calzone-for life. Do you like them deepfried, mozzarella, ricotta and slice of ham in the middle?
