OT - Dad's war stories
Posted by John P on Friday, September 12, 2003 9:28 PM
I put together a little tribute to my Dad's career in the air, with some amazing photos I dug up. This is kind of a birthday present for him - he would have been 81 on August 30.

Read, and see why I admired him so much.

Wow. You're lucky you know so much though. My grandfather was an army medic with the Lancashire regiment on the front line in Normandy. He's always been a very modest man and never talked much about his experiences, and now his memory's gone (he's 86 now). The one thing he ever told me was about an experience of being shelled when out on patrol - sounded horrific. Watching Band of Brothers last year helped me realise what sort of terrible experiences he must have had, and that maybe there's a lot he doesn't want to remember.

Just read your accounts of your fathers Life and can understand why you are justifiably proud of him. A great story that can be preserved for your grandchildren and theirs.
