This "series" is becoming fun.
ardy - Its a P-40K, flown by Maj. Ed Hollmeyer, 23rd Fighter Group.
wibhi - I'm trying something a little different here. Rather than create a "photograph" of an event, I'm trying for an "experience" (abstract idea). While its true that a camera would overexpose the highlights in the time it would take to capture the shadow information, our eyes don't have this limitation. I want them to look more like you are there witnessing it, rather than looking at a photograph of it. I find it much more challenging that way.

When you insert a pilot into a cockpit digitally, do you just eyeball the scale, or do you have some kind of system of measuring? Whatever you're doing, it looks right to me.

J-Hulk - Let me see if I can explain how I scale the pilot. First, I measure the approximate width that I need (in inches). Then, I convert it to pixels (my plane is 180 pixels/ inch). Then, I measure the size of the image I want to scan for the pilot. I set the scanning pixels/ inch control to achieve the desired pixel width. This way, I dont have to resample the scanned image (scaling up causes the computer to "invent" the pixels between). It sounds more complicated than it really is. Its just putting pixels over other pixels, & erasing the figure where the canopy frames are.
13b20 - A lot of people slam the AMT P-40, but it looks realistic enough for me !

I forgot to mention the "jungle growth." Its actually the top of a HUGE Willow tree ! Kinda looks tropical to me !

You may have answered this already in a previous post. How are the a/c displayed when you take the picuture? That is before you place them on the background. Placed on a table? Suspended?

Sled - Here's what went into this pic & "Frank Airborne." I usually select my background first, then light the plane from the appropriate angle. I also erase the "glass" portions of the canopy to have the background show.
