hurricanes in malta
Posted by nmayhew on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 10:55 AM
hi guysSmile [:)]
i've got a 1/48 huricane mk IIc (revell) and want to model it as stationed in malta when the island was under siege.
i bought the RAFDecal set RAF4802 from www.hannants.com which has a mk IIc in the RAF tropical camo scheme, but don't know whether or not to fit the vokes trop filter to it.
the plane i will be doing is LE S,from 242Sqn, work number be402
i've done some research and seen pics of planes already in malta waiting to have the filter changed to the trop version, whilst others arrived already kitted out...
the revell kit i have doesn't have the trop optionDisapprove [V], so can you tell me who does a good conversion set please?
if no-one does a conversion, can someone suggest a good 1/48 trop kit which has some malta decals??
i know this is a bit obscure but i'm sure you guys won't let me down!Smile [:)]Smile [:)]Smile [:)]
regards,
nick

I suggest getting the Hasegawa Tropical Hurricane kit . The kit you have now is really a Hasegawa kit in a Revell box.
Cheers

If you need markings try the Aeromaster "Defenders of Malta"parts 1&2, you can view them on www.aeromaster.com.

Hope this helps,

Darren.

thanks guys,
the problem is i've looked at the aeromaster decals (quite coolCool [8D]), but i'm having problems matching them up to an actual hurricane kit on the market, especially one that has the vokes filter already fiitedDisapprove [V]
unless ofcourse i've missed something really obvious here?[:0]
Kind regards, Nicholas

With a little work you could convert your 11c into a 11b and build it as HA-E (serial number/airframe number unknown) of 261 sqn.
This aircraft was flown by plt off Bill Hollis Hallett in 1941 and did not have a vokes filter fitted. paintwork was Dark Earth/Dark Green and Sky. Night spinner and medium sea grey codes.
For a picture and more info, get hold of the april 2002 edition of Scale Aircraft modeller international. Try sampublications on the net
