Spitfire pics
Posted by delov on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 1:46 PM
Here are some pictures from my newly finished Spitfire from Fujimi, 1/72 scale.

Model is motorized with on board w/2 button cell batteries wrapped in a heat shrink tube. Antenna is from copper wire and acts as a switch.

Enjoy.

is that some kind of rubber tubing for a flex-shaft ?
if so, that's a clever way around any alignment problems!

nice work.

Thank you all for the feedback
That green tube is the insulation from the copper wire. FSM run a good article on motorizing props in their Jan 2003 issue. That's where I got most of my ideas, including the wire insulation. Ironically, I ended up removing the insulation and replaced it with a straight brass tube that runs directly to the motor. Got rid of the aluminium guiding ring, too. Runs much better. That last picture happened by chance and I tried to replicate the settings since but no such luck. I am working on a web site with all the info I can put together about motorizing propellers. The first time I saw a motorized prop I knew my own prop planes would never be the same.

Hi Borislav
Your running Spitfire XIV looks great but can I make two suggestions for running propellers?
1. An a/c with it's engine running should have someone at the controls in the cockpit.
2. The pilot or groundcrew doing the engine run would be holding full "up" elevator to keep from nosing over.
Cheers

Thanks for the sugesgestions, Bob.
I thought of a pilot in the cockpit but nowadays they don't include pilot figures in the kits anymore. Which brings me to the question of casting my own figures from the few that I have from old kits. Does anybody knows where to find instructions on casting something as complex (to me) as a pilot figure?
