I'm no expert, but having browsed a couple of books, I found a photo of a South African Spitfire HF.IXe (TE213) which has an identical tailplane, bubble canopy and clipped wings.
On the bench: 1/35 Dragon Sturmpanzer Late Recent: Academy 1/48 Bf-109D (Nov 06) Academy 1/72 A-37 (Oct 06) Revell 1/72 Merkava III (Aug 06) Italeri 1/35 T-26 (Aug 06)

Hi thamus, my ref has this photo - a Mk16 - two RAF Greek Sqds were intergrated into the Greek Air Force in 1944, they had 66 of these. Matchbox have a Mk9 / 16 and the notes on it suggest the Mk16 was origonaly a Mk 9 with a packard merlin and later second series Mk16 (1944 on) had the modified fuselage and canopy - and used low level. The markings on the Matcbox kit are for a 1945 Belgium a/c......

Hi again Thyamus i had forgot about the Matchbox kit, it has the parts and info to convert it into the MK 16 but it is a really poor kit as far as accuracy is concerned. it is the lower fuselage at the trailing edge that is the problem as it has not got the double curves that follow the fuselage/wing joint line, although it can be rectified it does spoil what can be made into a nice replica with a bit of work. on the plus side the upper fuselage piece for the MK 16 can be used on other MKs (making the MK14 by Frog into a late MK14 or a griffon seafire for instance). if i where doing a spit 16 i would go for the Heller kit as it is by far the best of the two.....Greg
