I really dont think that it would be feasible to transition to the F-22 being that it would cost wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to much to do. I really think the F-16 is a great show performer anyways.Cool [8D]

There's an aviation artist (don't know who it was offhand) who thought the same thing and put your fantasy to canvas. Looked great. Did you ever see it?

How about the BONE or the B-2 in T-Bird markings. I like that 747 idea too. Only in a perfect world. Not in this one.

The noise factor was probably the first thing I thought of.
I heard a Harrier pilot once remark that the AV-8 could stay aloft on its own noise alone.
I tend to believe he just might not have been joking!

Anyway, I hope the Blues stick with the Hornet for a long time (looks like they don't have a great deal of choice). It's a beautiful show plane. I'll never forget seeing them in the F-4j Phantom back in the early 70's......Awesome doesn't even begin to describe.

Dust off 9 GR3's and paint 'em red - now you're talking!
The 2 ship synchronised display in the 80's was excellent, just imagine a 9 ship!

Merlin, just imagine the noise as the 6 Harriers takes off..! And the solo's routine would be so much more interesting!

With massive defence cuts looming in the UK, how long before the sparrows get binned?(Red Arrows to the Yanks)
The hawk is nearly 30 years old and the only replacement in sight is fewer numbers of new hawks, training will take priority.
With the retirement of concorde, I think that there will be a few more major shocks to come.
I think that with the passing of the last remaining WWII veterans, the BBMF will also cease flying in military guise, purely to keep the remaining strike assets in the air.
To some WWII is an irrelevance, put in the same ' happened a looooooonnnnng time ago' box as wwI.

Meanwhile, north of the 49th, I'm hoping the Snowbirds will transition to the Hawk trainer now that the Canadian Forces have it in inventory.

As for the above comment about the Red Arrows: The Arrows only belonged in one aircraft and that was the Avro Vulcan, pity THEY never saw it that way ;-)

JSF comes in 3 variants.
CTOL - Conventional takeoff and landing. Includes a bubble canopy and an internal gun. These are what the AF is buying. F-16 replacement.
CV - Designated based on the fact that they are to run off carriers or the CV platform. Significantly larger wings, bubble canopy, arresting hook and beefed up structure and landing gear. These are what the Navy will be buying. Strike Fighter with no clearly defined platform it is replacing.
STOVL - Short Take Off/Vertical Landing. These have the canopy you see on all the JSF kits and a liftfan in the front powered by a shaft off the front of the engine. The inaccuracies are well documented on the existing kits. These are what the Marine Corps will be buying. Harrier replacement. Although VTOL was demonstrated on the X-35, it is really designed for vertical LANDING vs. TAKEOFF.

Hope this helps/is interesting.

The reason the AF would not use the vtol feature for the t-bird jsf is that the the aircraft have to be uniform with the rest of the same type in service, this is so they can convert them back for war use if the need ever arose, the f-16s they use now are the same way , in their case they would have to pull the smoke generators from the ammo drum bay and repaint them to combat gray. The current plan for the AF JSF is for it to have a bomb bay where the navy and marine version will have a vtol exhaust .

you know what would be Totally Ausome is the T-birds go to the B-1B's they'll be the most empressive aerial demo team on the Planet cause watching the Bone do the same routine as an F-15 Demo was very IMPRESSIVE, and having it fly by at transonic sounded like a 200 car coal train going by

The idiot was practicing for a local airshow (Fairchild AFB, Wa) The pilot had been warned several times for his aggressive flying. The irony of this is that the accident report blamed the senior leadership. They died in the crash.

The 14's are in fact cool, pav, but they just don't have the agility of the Hornets. It's a shame, too, as the Tommies are my favorite plane, too.
How about the F-117's as a show team? Or better yet, 7 Boeing 747's flying close formation, with a split "s" at the end? Great stuff!

We're all missing the point, The REAL demo team, the blue angels. F-14's anyone? As for the T-Birds, I like F-111's. Now THAT's a demo team! The Boeing JSF candidate with that cool maw would have looked great in T-Bird colors.
