1/32 scale B-17

Do you want the bad news. It's been in the rumors for a while now.
From what I've heard is Hasegawa is buying the 1/48 Monogram B-17G
and putting it in the Hasegawa box. I don't think we will see it in the U.S.
I think it's for the Asian market only. It's just like the Ju-87 and P-38
that we see from Pro-Modeler. They're the Hasegawa kits in Monogram boxes.

P.S. If you are really wanting a 1/32 scale B-17?
I.D. Models out a England made a Vac-u-form kit that could be
made as an E,F, or G. I think they're out of business, but the B-17
has floated around. Check eBay every now and then.

Panda Models of China has just released thier 2003 catalogue and they say the a 1/35 scale CH47-C Chinook and a 1/32 scale B-17 are due! I have just recieved a e-mail from a Model Kit news source in Europe and they said they will get back to me on this!

From what I heard the Panda 1/32 B-17 F and G were going to be in the $150.00 price renge. Get out your check book!

That sounds about right.........That B-17 kit would need to be a HUGE improvement over the Monogram kit for me to pay over 100.00!

Now on the other hand that 1/35 Chinook can be very lame......all I need is a shell and I can do the rest! Here is proof ....see my Lunar Models 1/35 Spindrift

The only Chinook in a decent size was Aurors 1/48 CH47-B and boy was that a soft detail kit but for 1964 its not bad.

The ID vacform of the B17 is a night mare! You get just the basics. No interior, engines, or undercariage. All has to be scratch built. The transparacies are opaque! and I'm not even sure they got the overal shape right. I'd rather totaly scratch build than tackle this.
On the upside though, rumours abound of a 1/48th B17 from Tamiya,and from Maquete. Any one else hear of this?

Yeah, the Tamiya B-17 rumblings started in earnest some time in March, though there had been mere rumours for quite some time.

Haven't seen it on the Tamiya website, though, so until I do I; I'll believe it when I actually see it.

The Hasegawa deal may have been a hoax, it was announced on or around April 1st, and was coupled with the rumblings of the Tamiya kit so as to make it more believable. (?)

Could be true, though, 'cuz Hasegawa seems to have released almost all the old 48th Monogram kits under license at one time or another, including several other manufacturers' kits.

And the Panda 32nd kit, all I can say is, I'm glad I'm not really into braille scale. 'Cuz with more and more manufacturers getting as brave as Panda, I'd be even "broker" than I am now.

Here in Japan the ol' Monogram (I ain't gonna call it Revell!) B-17G is indeed released under the Hasegawa banner, but, bless their hearts, they include the Monogram logo too! So, nobody thinks they're getting a new pure Hasegawa B-17. Gotta appreciate their honesty! Monogram doesn't do that, eh? Too bad...

No Tamiya 1/48 B-17. Sorry.

Hey i understand that panda is gonna be releasing its 1/32 b-17, but is it gonna be a way to get it here in america?? i mean is it gonna be only sold there in asia or here en america too?

Since Panda's F-35 and others in the series have been sold here in the States, I would say that it's more than likely that the '17 will be too. I also don't think Panda would let such a great opportunity to make money from selling it here in the U.S. go. I personally want to see their 1/32 F-18s... wondering how they'll stack up to the Academy kit.

I think they'll just stack up. On hobby shop shelves that is! (It's a joke, no comments please!)

I can't see any 32nd F/A-18 kit being much of an improvement over Academy's. Like all kits, it has problems. But it's gorgeous in the box and built-up.

Nevertheless, not everyone can afford the Academy kit, so it's a good thing that Panda has one of their own coming. It'll undoubtedly be less expensive. And even if it doesn't measure up, so to speak, to Academy's, so what?

Then again, there's the possibility that it's a reboxed Academy kit! I hope not though, it's kinda depressing when that happens...

As far as the B-17, I won't be getting one, but I can't wait to see this behemoth!

Hi folks On the subject of the ID MODELS 1/32 B17 kit. I talked with Doug Feeney of ID models at an IPMS meet some years ago now and from what i remember the idea of this kit and the 1/32 lancaster was to provide the modeler with the BASIC airframe for him or her to zap their "model magic" on it was never intended as a complete kit "out of the box". Hard work true but better than the solid balsa days of the SKYBIRDS kits ....HAPPY KITBASHING....Gregers
