Revell/Monogram A-10 Thunderbolt II
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 1:19 PM
I searched the forums for this topic and could not find an answer to my question so here goes.

I am building the Revell/Monogram 1/48 A-10 Thunderbolt and am wanting to close the speedbrakes/decelerons. Anyone have any experience with this? I have never attempted something like this. It does not seem to hard but I do not want to get in over my head.

Any suggestions for closing them?

Hi, Steve.
I built that kit a zillion years ago (when it was just Monogram), and if I recall correctly, you just glue 'em in the closed position, no? I don't recall doing anything particularly difficult with them.
Maybe the kit is different now, but the one I built was simple enough.

They are molded in the open position as a seperate piece with no option to have them closed unless you want to do it yourself.

Hmmmm....
Well Steve, it's either a different kit, or I just didn't know any better at the time and just glued 'em shut however they fit!

That old kit's in storage back in the States, so I can't check it out...
Anybody else out there who can help Steve out?

I may have easy access to the kit (I also have the Monogram release... depends where I have hidden it!!). If I lay my eyes upon it I will have a look.

When I built the 'Hog" with them closed, here is how I did it. Seperate the speed brakes from the spar. You can't use the spar as it will not work in closing up the speed brakes. Use card stock to close up the hole where the spar would go. Glue the speed brakes together and dry fit into the slots, triming the stock till you get a close fit. Then glue onto the wing. You will also have to make new hinge tabs for the speed brakes as you will damage the ones molded on when you cut off the brakes. Sounds complicated, but it is real easy to do.
