nd help with finding or fixing n1k2 george decals
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, September 26, 2003 10:03 AM
Hi everyone, 12 years ago I built a Hasegawa George kit. It was one of my best kits to that time. I experimented with an airbrush and loved the results. I applied the decals and it looked awesome. Unfortunately, (I'm no expert now but knew even less then) I didnt do anything to prep for the decals just put them on and they have silvered. Is there anything that can be done to save them. I have considered pulling them off and putting new ones on over a coat of future but I cant find any after market decals for this plane. It would of course be easier if these could be fixed up on the plane. Ive consider maybe putting decal set or water on them and then overspraying with future in a couple of days but dont know if that would help at all. Does anyone have any experience with this. I certainly appreciate any help that you can give me. Thanks

I've talked to modelers who have had a similar situation and what had worked for them (on smaller decals. I don't know about something as large as the 'rising sun' circles) was to use a very sharp razor and carefully cut through the decal but not to hard to cut through the paint and into the plastic. Then apply a decal setting solution (Solvset, etc). The solution will flow into and under the cut and help the decal set more firmly against the model. You may have to make several cuts to get it completely under the decal an then watch for wrinkling and carefully smooth it out.
