A few new items have been added since my last visit. It is too bad they would not allow us to take pictures. In fact, they would not allow me to take my brick radio into the facility. Security was very tight then.

Try out this link.....I think you might like it. This is the threat training facility at Nellis. You used to have a "secret" clearance to visit. Still not open to the general public but they are at least showing pics of what they have got. The Mig 29 is new since I visited last. http://www.nellis.af.mil/TTF/index.htm

When I was in the Marine Corps one of our pilots told me about a "museum" of captured Soviet aircraft. My understanding was that it was either on or around the Nellis AFB area. You had to have a "top secret" security clearance to visit.

Ain't gonna be much, if anything, on the web and I doubt there'd be many photos out there in general.

Anyhoo, if you still wanna search around, try looking up the following:

YF-113 (US designation for USAF operated MiG-23 and possibly MiG-27 Floggers. If you see any reference to a 'YF-113G', specifically an article from AvLeak (Aviation Week & Space Technology), this is apparently an error. The YF-113G was allegedly a separate black-project.)

6513th TES 'Red Hats'

4477th TES 'Red Eagles' - Both of these units were involved in operating MiGs, although the 4477th may be the better bet for Floggers.

The MiGs were operated from Groom Lake, so you may want to go the Groom Lake / Area 51 / Tonapah route as well.

Although Area 51 / Groom Lake is surrounded by the Nellis range it's believed by many to be under the control of the Flight Test Center at Edwards. I doubt you'd find out much by that route, but as a researcher I've learned the value of following any and all leads.

Good luck, you're gonna need it!

MiG 23 tested by USAF
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, September 28, 2003 3:06 PM
Hello,

I've got a big problem. Some egyptian MiG23 BN were tested by the USAF at Nellis AFB. Now I try to build one of these MiGs. But obviously there are no photos existing (in the web). Is there anybody who has some photos?
