A-10 cockpit set
Posted by Bones-coa on Wednesday, October 8, 2003 7:21 AM
You guys are gunna get sick of me talking about this Trumpter A-10 at some point. Big Smile [:D]

I'm trying to decide who's cockpit kit I want to buy for my A-10. It seems everyday I learn of another company producing another kit. Right now, I still seem to like the Verlinden kit over the others. However, is there anywhere on the web where someone as looked at and compared all of these avaliable kits?

Thanks guys.

Dana,
This is what's available out there for this kit:

Cutting Edge - CEC32057 cockpit set, CEC32061 exterior set, CEC32062 Bulged Wheel, CEC32063 Super Detailed Instrument Panel, CEBM32060 Canopy Mask, CEC32075 GAU-8 Gun Muzzle, CEC32087 ADU-597/A Dual Rail Adapter (DRA) for two AIM-9L/M Sidewinders (AIM-9s not included)
Eduard - XL026 Canopy Mask, 32061 Interior set, 32062 Exterior set, 32063 Armament set
Black Box - BL32005 A-10A cockpit set
Airmo - 32071 metal cannon barrels
Verlinden - 1690 cockpit set, 1691 exterior set
Legend Production - LF3201 cockpit set

Any of the sets would be great. Find one that you think you could manage, and go from there. I ran into the same cunundrum, and went with the Verlinden sets. I just like Verlinden, though. To find the details, just search for any of the above kits on the web.

Wow, thanks Demono. I have read that some Verlinden kits (don'k know if they were referring to the A-10 kits) didn't fit in the fuselage halves very well. Have you heard and/or expereinced any of this?

I had 2 slight problems. The first was my own fault, in that the cockpit will not fit properly unless the inner walls of the fuselage are extremely smooth. If there are any leftover burs from the origional slotting tabs, it will not fit properly. The second was making the mistake of assuming that the 2-seater cockpit would easily fit with the avionics bay detail kit. I was wrong. Because of that, the rear section of my cockpit has been heavily modified (read, cut up) to allow the proper clearance. Other than that, there are no real problems. As long as you dry fit, you should have no difficulties.

Thanks. I shouldn't have the second problem since mine is not a 2-seater. However, that's good to know as I do plan to also get the avionics kit as well.

And since we're on that subject Big Smile [:D] , once you cut the doors away on the model itself, does the Verlinden kit come with new doors? Or do you have to salvage the ones you had to destroy?

For the avionics kit, it comes with new PE doors and a gunbay door of resin, so you don't have to salvage them except to mold the panels. The kit should pose no fit problems due to the fact that the resin bay should sit behind the tub of the cockpit.
