Does Revell-Monogram make the A-1 Skyraider?

According to the web (Greatmodels.com) it's out of prodction. Noticed that most of Revell kits are now out of production. Does this mean re-tooling to come up to other manufacture's standards or are they just gone? Anybody out there with a clue?

Monogram makes or has made three skyraider kits, two in 1/48 scale, the A-1, and AD-6; in 1/72 they made the H i believe model, a model capable of carrying about ten troups in a set of benches behind the pilots. All are great kits, and not hard to find.

Revellogram did release the A-1 Skyraider; they where molded in Grey, Blue, and O.D. , the Grey one was the first for the Navy's and the they back dated it for the AD-6 then they updated it for the AF version under the Tour of Duty TV Series with the other kits like the F-4's, F-104's, F-105's, etc...
the kit is not that bad for the time it was released, butTamiya is the creme of the creme but for the more bang for the buck I'd go for the R/M(and if you like to rescribe panel lines)

The Monogram kit is a pretty good one even for as old as it is and is fairly easy to find - If you want a strange one, get the old Revell 1/40 scale AD-2 (but you'll really have to look)

I have the older Monogram A-1 kit. Haven't built it yet, but the detail is pretty decent.

I've built the R-M kit twice. As with most R-M kits, it's a pretty good build for the money.

The Monogram Spads (AD-6 & A-1H) are pretty easy to find and hold up fairly well to today's kits,
although the ultimate so far is Tamiya's.

I'd stay away from the old Matchbox (A-1E/AD-5) & ESCI (AD-4W) kits unless you're either a
truly dedicated or truly casual modeler!


Fade to Black...

Monogram did produce a 1/48 A-1 Skyraider way back between late 70's and early 80's(it was the time when Monogram kits had no box art painting but used the photograph of the completed kit as box art). The old ESCI also produced two 1/48 A-1 Skyraider kits, one in USN version the other in USAF version in late 70's. All these kits are old and I haven't seen them for years, you might find them in eBay.

I agree with Captain Caveman, IMHO, I suggest you stick with Tamiya one.

the Tamiya one is very good if your after a Skyraider

Revell got hold of most if not all of the Matchbox molds and they did have a Skyraider in this scale so Revell may release it. Greg
