Tamiya Reference CD-ROM's
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, October 19, 2003 12:13 AM
Hi everyone,

In a Military bookstore I saw 2 CD-ROM's by Tamiya, one was on the Bf 109 the other was on the P51 Mustang. On the box it says each CD contains reference photos, colour schemes, walkaround detail shots of the planes etc. I was wondering has anyone seen the contents of these items and would they recommend them to other modellers. They are a little expensive but probably worth it if they are as good as they sound on the box.

Cheers.... Snowy

Hi, Snowy.
I haven't seen any of the aircraft CD-ROMs, but I do have the Tiger I CD-ROM, and it's pretty darn cool. Lots of file footage, ref pix, data, 360 degree virtual views. etc. If the aircraft one are as good as this one, I'd certainly recommend it.

Sounds cool. Ive seen these at the Hobbytown here as well and was thinking of getting a few. I think I may now. Does anyone know of any DVDs out about German armor? Ive seen a few shots of Panzers and Tigers on the History channel . But they are always short . I would imagine theres got to be some videos out there solely devoted to the Tigers or Panzer variants. Would be nice to see some of these in action instead of still shots.

Snowy,
I've never seen the CD-ROMs, but if they're manufactured and distributed by Tamiya, it would be a safe bet to say they'll be worth buying.
I'd be very surprised if you were disappointed after buying them.

Seems as though I remember seeing something on DVD at Best Buy today about WW2 Armor...May want to check your local best buy....I know mine has a ton of DVD's including all the the MASH sets...toss up between asking for the complete MASH library or something model related for my birthday!

I've seen them on ebay several times. Check there, you might find it cheaper than what you saw them for.

I have the Mustang and Spitfire CD-ROMs. I was a bit disappointed in the Mustang one because it didn't mention the RCAF use of the aircraft, or show any of their outstanding colour schemes, but as a modelling reference they are very good for cockpit and other details.

thanks Chris for the tip on Best Buy. I'll have to go check it out even though Ive been avoiding going there cause I keep drooling over the new bigscreens and Im too tempted to buy one. Also, I think VLS carries the cdroms too. I know they use too. And if you have the membership, you can get 25% off.
