About Future
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, October 23, 2003 3:12 AM
God with this Future!
Even friends that often visit UK IMPS Nationals speak about it!
Angry [:(!] WELL ONCE MORE: It does not exist in Greece...
Is there anything else to use instead of it with similar results?
I use Winsor & Newton clear gloss, but I am not happy with it. It needs careful thinning down, and airbrushing. It some time produces grains (which I hate!).
Tamiya clear gloss is my second choice, but, but, but...
Anyone? Help? Please? Cool [8D]

Ok,
While I dont have a suggestion for something to use in its place. Have you looked for a site online that might carry it and order it in? I dont even know if it would be worth it then especially considering the amount you might have to have to make it worth an order vs. the amount you might actually use.
It might be worth checking out the SC Johnson Company website found here:
http://www.scjohnson.com
to see if they offer a free sample they would ship.
I know that none of this might really be "useful suggestions" but it cant hurt to check into.
Or perhaps next time you go to an event out of country you could try locating the product and buying it to take back with you.

Thanx Chris. That was a good suggestion. I will look in "SC Johnson Company" site.
I have not yet understood what exactly is this future. Is it a wax? Does it completely dry on the model?

ModelDio,
In Europe Future is marketed as KLEER, does that help?

Don
I know it's only rock and roll, but I like it.

Do you by any chance remember which company distributes it?

Kleer and Klir are distributed by SC Johnson. Problem with SC Johnson is that the left hand does not know whar the right hand is doing. Even Corpoate headquarters does not know which distributors (and there are a lot of them) offer the Future formula or what they call it. Unfortunately not all SC Johnson distrubtors offer the product as we see in Spain where it is not availible at all. You may be in a similar situation however, should you find a suitable product please let us know what and where you found it.

Future is available in parts of Europe--e.g., U.K. and Holland--under those other names (Kleer, Klir). Folks over there do a lot more traveling between countries than we're used to here in the U.S. A bottle of the stuff will last a modeler for years.... I wonder if airline security or border guards would have conniptions if you bought a bottle during a trip to a country that sells the stuff and then brought it home with you.

Heads up: We've got an article in the works about Future, tentatively lined up for the March '04 issue (usual caveats about schedule being subject to change apply).

I'm surprised that no one sells Future on eBay -- or do they?

I have spoken to these people on more than one occasion. Their response? "That's not what it was designed for." Duh!

ModelDIO,

Other products that you can use are Microscale's Micro Clear & Micro Flat, and also Testor's Glosscoat & Dullcoat, both of which are lacquer-based. I've used all of these, including Future, and have had great results using them. The only problem I've had with Future is that if you don't pay attention to how heavy you spray it on, it will have heavy sags and runs on the bottom of what you're trying to coat.

Future is packaged in a tall, clear plastic bottle with 798mL capacity. It is an acrylic floor polish, designed primarily for no-wax floors, but can be used on just about any floor. A big advantage in using Future for modeling is that you don't have to thin it to spray it - just use it straight out of the bottle. I have read that some modelers will thin it with alcohol, but I don't know if that gives any advantages. I was siad earlier by someone else, I you want a bottle or two, just let me know. I'd be happy to send you some. Hope this helps you out. Happy Modeling!!

Sorry, the last few sentences in the previous post should have read, "As was said earlier by someone else, if you want a bottle or two, just let me know. I'd be happy to send you some." I usually proofread my posts before sending them. Sorry...........
