BF 109s
Posted by phule on Sunday, November 2, 2003 2:19 PM
I would like to amass a complete collection of 109s, starting with the V1 and go through the major models ending in the K. I would prefer to do it in the same scale, but if not, no loss. So any idea where to get the harder to find versions?

Thank you for your help.

A Man after my own heart! Here's my "to do" shelf of 109s:

and here's the ones I have finished so far:

Hope that gives you some leads. I've seen the V1 and V3 by some of the more obscure Czech companies, but I can't recall offhand who.

Falcon Makes the G-12 in 1/48 and I beleive Hobbycraft does one in 1/72. I've seen most of the Vs by Eastern European Co.s B,C and Ds are also done by Hobbycraft and Academy in 1/48. E,F ,G,K and even the T are readily available.

Good Luck,

Rick

I've got two Ts, one by MPM and one by Hasegawa, both in 1/48. I even managed to snag the Hasegawa/Gartex V-tail kit.

I haven't seen an H in 1/48, but there are 1/72 ones. The Z conversion is by Cutting edge, available at www.meteorprod.com .

If you are contemplting using 1/72 scale then try Heller. They make a complete range of 109s. I'm not sure if the V1 is one though.
Heller use a grey plastic that works well for cutting, sanding etc.
Now for the "Caviat Empor" . Some of Hellers stuff is very good but some is just not up to par.

Wow, I didn't expect such a response. Thank you very much. I am definately going to look into all of these. I can't imagine a 109Z, what an awesome site that would have been

beware that heller kits are raised lines with minimal internal detail. but they do have rare subjects.

STAY AWAY from the Hobbycraft 1/72 scale G-12. I just got one and it is pretty bad. I started it on Saturday, and have most of it done. I was able to get it to look like an acceptable 109, but it was a lot of work. You'd be much better off getting a Hasegawa G-6 and modifying it. However, I should note that Hobbycraft's 1/48 scale 109's are very nice.

^I'm pretty sure the Hobbycraft G-12 is made by one of the Czech limited run companies. Ya know - "experienced modelers only" :).

The Ventura 1/48 is pretty rough too, but I built their Isreali Avia with little or no problem. There used to be a nice vac conversion by Falcon. I don't know if they're still around though.

Now granted I am not the best modeller nor am I that experienced either. I understand that raised panel lines are unrealistic but how would you go about making them recessed?
