Conversion articles with OOP parts!
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, November 5, 2003 4:59 AM
Dead [xx(]I am getting rather anoid with magazine articles that start out with the words...."A great conversion of the Fluttermite 2 to the later Fluttermite 9. The resin conversion kit used by Blogs is no longer available".......
This is not a fault of FSM but when I see a conversion I would like to do I would think that the parts should have a reasonable availability.
The aricraft concerned were a Lancaster to Manchester and Lancaster to Lincoln. both higly desirable.

Hey Dai;
I hate to tell you this but try EvilBay sometimes there is someone who is selling conversion kits for some models the last one I've seen was the Chyenne turret for the B-17G's and there was another one but I forget what it was didn't pay to much attention to it but just try it for a while then you'll see your item and hit it hard so no one will out bid youand if they do make it worth their while like make a $100.00 bid and no one will go over maybe $30.00 or so if you know what I mean

Modelers are nothing if not pack-rats. Chances are that if an item is discontinued, you can find somebody somewhere who socked away 4 or 5 extras and is willing to sell you one. Some of the bigger model shops and e-tailers may also still have the item. It takes a little digging and maybe some visits to the vendor areas of model shows, but usually you can find what you want.

I agree with Dai here. I know that with some searching, I may be able to find the parts/conversion kit certain articles talk about and I know that even if I can't find the parts/conversion kit I can still learn new building techniques just by reading the article. But I just seems it would seem more logical to do articles about conversions with models and conversion kits that are currently available.

I understand the frustration, but what's the alternative...not do the article? I wouldn't want to miss a great demonstration because a conversion kit isn't available. When I find the conversion I want to do, I'll be able to use the tips from the like project. I generaly pick my own projects and seldom emulate a project from an article.
