actually putting the pilot in is a good way to go away with a detailed cockpit, who occasionally it is a hinderence to seeing all the detail.....my tamiya spit has its jockey in and half the cockpit is obscured....

I put as much detail into the cockpit without going into aftermarket parts. I hang most of my A/C but I alway keep in mind that my ceiling space isn't unlimitted. I always attach the canopy so that it can easly be remover without a lot of damage. But my biggest peeve about A/C is most do not have pilots. I'd like to get my hands on a buch but as yet all I've found is one sitting pilot with a mess of ground crew. Ground crew just dont look good hanging from the ceiling.

Fighter cockpits don't bother me too much because you can still see most or a lot of the detail. But in a bomber it is a different story. I have finaly learned to simply put a coat of interior color and leave it alone on the models I will be hanging on the ceiling. But on those that will end up in my display case, I still fully detail the whole interior, whether it can be seen or not.

I do mostly 1/72 and only spend time on ejection seats because you can see them. If i do 1/48, it's a different story, There I'll put in the work because you can see it better and it's not as hard as 1/72. The only exception is my Hasegawa 1/72 F-14. I spent the time on it, now I can't see it, the canopy will be open but my eyesight is bad.

Because the serious modeler can not complete a project knowing that the cockpit isn't up to his standards. The kit is not complete, because the cockpit isn't complete.

Good question. I spent alot of time on the cockpits of my Monogram He111 & JU88. Resin and PE , wash, and drybrush. They looked good, then the canopies hide the whole thing. But knowing it's in there, gives me a sense of accomplishment. I guess for me it was the adventure of exploring another relm of modeling was most satisfyng. I have to admit I haven't done it since. lose cockpit details?

I am curious and I have sort of mentioned this before. Why do people spend all this money on cockpits and then seal the canopy over the top? I find it crazy that some of the best detailing I do is on the cockpit, again, only to lose it because I have a piece of plastic on there which while clear, obscures everything. Am I crazy? But, if I don't glue on the cockpits, one or both of my cats has a new chew toy.
