intake troubles

Hobby Lobby sells "sanding twigs", which are sanding sticks cut into small strips. I've found them very useful in tight spaces like intake trunks and landing gear scissors.

Have you thought of using Milliput epoxy putty? Once applied, you can work it, smooth it, shape it using water and a variery of tools (my favourite is a rounded off toothpick) or your fingers (though in this case that would not work of course). Applied thinly, the 'regular' Milliput (white/red box) will dry rock solid in about an hour. I use it a lot to fill in gaps because I won't have to damage the surrounding details...

I'll try the cosmetics files as I've never seen a single picture of a Voodoo with any sort of intake cover on it, at least not a Canadian Voodoo, which is what I'm trying to model here.

It has been a long time since I attempted a Voodoo ,however my only constructive suggestion woul be to try a flexible file. These are marketed by several hobby suppliers,or can be found in the cosmetics Dept. at your local WAL-MART. The good thing about them is you can carve them to a taper etc. Otherwise scratch build an intake cover,it always worked in the old days when there was nothing but a gaping hole! I hope this helps.
