The "Hudson" on the other hand will hopefully get it's mattcoat today.

I got some more work done over the weekend....well more fixing what wasn't broke...er fixing what I broke when I decided to do the former. I wasn't satisfied with my color choice of red wheels with a peral white body, and much prefered a metallic black with a red frame and red wheels and red lower body trim. The problem with this is the frame was 80% assembled. Luckily for me since Tamiya's 1/12 bike chassis is held together with tiny screws most of the disassembly was a breeze until I got to the swing arm which I somehow managed to break in to three pieces along with snapping a shock support in half. I had to do some minor filling when I put the arm back together, but it still looks 'goofy" kinda like all things do when they've been broken and repaired. Gonna re-paint the frame Tamiya Mica Red when the Packer v Texans game hits 1/2 time then reassemble the mechanical parts tomorrow. I also got most of the body panels ready for paint, there's just a couple more problem areas on the fuel tank and front fender that need Bondo. Then it's just a matter of assembling the 100000000000 piece front suspension, repairing the broken shock and adding 100000000 more tiny pedals and hoses to finish it up. And to think I just ordered the companion ZZR 1400 kit so I can subject myself to this foolishness all over

68, I do like the look of that Sparkvark  I cant wait to see it all done. The 111 is one of those birds that I just love.

CM, that sucks about the damage when you went to go back on dis assembly for re paint. I am always worried about events like that when I try and re do something. Gotta figure out if the improvement to be made will be worth the risk...

Well I am just about at the finish line on my FSV. Today I airbrushed on a Matt coat using Humbrol Matt clear ..love that stuff.. dead flat finish, but tricky to measure just right with thinner in order to avoid a haze effect. Then I mixed up a nice shade for dry brushing highlights on the OD using Zinc Chromate and SAC Bomber Tan. And after that was some bare metal drybrushing with Steel on the turret, tow cable, and tools, and Aluminum on certain hull areas.

Afterwards I super glued the tracks down on the road wheels to give the proper sag

then I added and painted some antennas and placed the commanders's .30 Cal.MG in its' spot...

Tomorrow all I have to do is some dirt weathering and I am calling this one done.

It would have gone alot smoother if i had an opportunity to get my s**t together when I started. Problem was I settled on one color, then my clear got banned so i used testors which reacted badly causing me to have to strip it. Then i re-sprayed and tried another clear that reacted as well at which point i ordered a new set of body panels. By then I had run out of tamiya candy green and gloss black which i couldn't get due to stocking problems after the government labeling dispute. This caused a color change, and long story short more problems caused another color change. Now the most recent batch of issues is i managed to sign my name to the frame in the form of a giant thumbprint etched in to it. So sick of this thing at this point I'm gonna toss it back in it's box and think about it after we move. With all the other stress on my mind i don't need a build going badly to add to it.

Yeah you gotta love this EPA stuff to protect us from ourselves and our hobby.

Well here are the next to last steps on my M113 FSV: A series of "dustings" with my airbrush before the final  weathering with pigments...

first up a coat of Raw Umber- great for wet rice paddy mud

then a layer of Burnt Sienna with a bit of Raw Umber

next a layer of Raw Sienna with a tad of Burnt Sienna mixed in

and finally a layer of Burnt Sienna with a bit of Raw Sienna

Once this has all dried I will apply some pigments and then it will be time for final pics.

OK, I am calling this one done. As near as I can tell, I started this build 4 years ago or so, in June 2008. But much of the time this very simple kit sat sidelined nearly completed. No excuses for my tardiness on completion, but hey, isn't that what this GB is all about?

now on to the next shelf queen overdue for completion...

Stik, that's one impressive battle taxi! I love the airbrush weathering prep -- did you use oils or acrylics? Those shades are made by a couple of acrylic lines now.

I've got a couple of the Tamiya 113's in the stash, I've always liked the vehicle.

Thank you guys! Yes, those 113s are fun builds. An armored box on tracks that has so many options for weapons, turrets, etc. I am glad that you like the finished build. The Tamiya 113s do have their weak spots in the running gear and tracks, but they are still nice little kits. And nobody else does the CP (M577) or 4.2" Mortar Carrier (M106) Tracks in 1/35. I will probably do one of those next year.

68, I am with you on having a soft spot for those things. I have spent more time in them than I care to count or remember...

TB, I used MM Acrylics on the Sienna & Umber shades. Just one color on top of the previous one as those were still drying.

Get all four TB -Burnt and Raw Umber, Burnt and Raw Sienna! Although if you do a lot of washes, get at least Burnt Umber in enamel too! I use that stuff on almost every build, including this one. Enamels have far better properties for washes and dry brushing in my experience than acrylics.

Good observation -- the MM Acryls are brush-friendly, which Tamiya definitely are not, so I'd be confident to drybrush in them. There's always oils too, if you have the drying time...

I really do need to try out oils one day soon. And at the pace that I build kits, I certainly have drying time

Mike, I give you a lot of credit.  You must have the patience of a saint.  That would have been thrown against a wall long ago if I was building that.

Thank you Tax. I am really liking how your Panther is turning out. The spare tracks look just right to my eye. I am looking forward to seeing what you do weathering the rest of it.

Theuns - once again you've finished an excellent model of a really interesting subject. Your Hudson is outstanding, and is probably the best example I've seen of this rarely modelled subject.

I've got the job done on the Panther. I'm often my own harshest critic, but I actually like this one. Hope you do too.

Basic kit was Tamiya 1/48 Panther Ausf G with a turned barrel, p/e grills, Bison decals, Tamiya paint with a couple of oil based filters, some weathering powders, a pin wash and some scratches applied by pencil and paint.

Very nice tank you made there. I rather like the subtle weathering and dirt on it, not to much, just looks like it is a real working piece of armour. well done.

Maybe I should try my hand a some armour , but allas I know very little about the subject. Lucky for google then hey LOL!
