Again nice work Bsyamato- I love those tiny little rudder pedals! Your eyesight is so much better than mine to build stuff that small! Geeked

My Chi-Ha is coming along pretty well.

Construction was pretty straight forward. The kit is well engineered  and has good fit. The sprue gates seem a little big which makes cleaning the tiny parts a bit difficult.

I've got the camo down. The brown might be a bit too dark and had some trouble with the dark color 'running' so had to touch that up a bit. Here's what it looks like now....

Good looking Chi-Ha there. The brown does look a little dark but does depend on how you're going to weather her. Nice work on the camo pattern!

Run into a little problem.

The Fine Molds kit has 'rubber band' tracks. But the pins don't go the whole way through, so I suspect you must glue them, but I'm not sure what kind of glue to use.

Does anyone here read Japanese???

Waynec: Nice looking vehicle, the camo will be the fun part!

WT: If you can't get them to glue you can always take a needle and thread and sew the ends together, always works for me.

Bsyamato: nice work as usual!

WT: If you should mess up the tracks I replaced the treads off one of my Type 97 kits with link tracks, you can have the old rubber band ones if you want 'em.

For the tracks, can you use a stapler? Works fine for me, and the part what is stapled you can place behaind a plate of the tank. If there is any, off course...

Yeah a stapler works great too, hide it or put some mud on the tracks over it. I think the sewing thread is easier to hide but stapling works great too.

The Egg-Yamato is finished. But I decided the name will be changed to Yamato puppy. Take a look at this pic and you know why...

http://fav.me/d5ykoc6

The rudder and propellers are from the 1:350 Yamato. The little one looks just like a puppy to the real dog!

Here you can see the bow...

All and all it was a fun ship to build. All fits very well, and when you do noit use the decals, you get a really nice fun model! Only for those who are not too serious!!!

Cheers,

Paul

Looks great! My big mamma is getting further also, I'll place some new pics soon.

The only thing, I'm constantly fighting with the railing. I glue them with secondglue, and thay simply jump off the turret or whatever. I needed to buy new tool railings, because the old ones damage or dissapear. Any tips for me?

Thank you for the comments Gents. With the Railings on the Turrets, I superglue them partway from the rear of the Turret. Because of the Ridges on the Turret, I glue the rest down at the angle needed after the rest of the Glue has dryed. I had the same problem the first time I built her......Cheers Mark

I'm calling my ChiHa done....

Pastels and filters seemed to lighten up the brown, especially in the front.

@Gamera, I do not see the baby Yamato in the roster! (snif)

Later today I'll place some pics of the progress on the big one.

As promised above, here are a few pictures of my 1:350 Yamato.

First a bit of my pride, the crane. I have to make the wiring yet, bur that will be possibly tonight.

http://fav.me/d5zfpit

And one from the stern. When I did see this picture on my PC screen, I found out that I have to order my 1:350 Japanese crew to clean the flight deck as it is very dusty...

http://fav.me/d5zfpq0

The next one is the citadel. I have yet to make the guns, I'll start tonight with that. Before I can place them, the wooden deck must be placed first.

The pagoda, funnel, antenna and rear bridge are ready to be painted.

http://fav.me/d5zfpms

As final, a view from the bow. It gives an impression of the ship, and what it can become when finished...

http://fav.me/d5zfpks

In contrary to Surfsup, I'm making the model as in use. So the big 18" guns are not equal, a bit damaged and a crew. Also some things you can see on pictures of the real ship or scenes form the movie Otoko-tachi no Yamato (Yamato, Pacific battleship www.imdb.com/.../tt0451845)

To give an idea, my avatar is a bit as I have it in mind for the rear tower:

http://fav.me/d5zfrlr

Cheers for now, I have a crew to get to work...

Ouch Paul I don't know how I missed you. Baby Yamato is posted to the roster now. Thanks for bringing this up. Embarrassed

If.. um when I screw something up here please, please yell at me and I'll try to get it fixed!!!

Beautiful work there Paul on the Big Yamato, that crane is crazy complicated, I don't see how you ship modelers build PE like that, I'd have made a huge mess out of it, after losing half the parts.

I really like the idea of showing her 'in action' as it were. I've seen clips from that film, I assume you have it? I've thought about looking around for a sub-titled copy.

Good work on the ChiHa Winetanker, weathering came out really nice, and I like the addition of the bottles, it gives the little thing some more character. And nice progress on the big Yamato Paul. The crane looks very intricate, is it PE?

The crane (and other stuff) is PE. It is not that hard, the crane itself is made out of 2 pieces, the standard and the beam, The big problem with these things are the little things. The hook at the tip of the crane is 1x3 millimeter. The wheels are 2 mm. In the counterweight (left on the side picture) are 4 wheels, each 2 mm cross. The ax had to be at biggest 0,3mm. I used powerlines for H0 traines as the ax. The hole in the wheel was to small, so I drilled a hole of 0,3 mm in the middle so the ax could get trough.

When I placed the ax and wheels in the counterweight (opening is 4mm) I cut the ends of the wire(ax) so there was only the ax in place. To be sure that the ax would stay in place, I put a very tiny drop of fast glue at the outside of the "box". The glue sees a hole where it could go trough, and so it did...

The 4 precicely cut and drilled wheels changed in a klump of PE, 1mm thick, 2 mm cross...

My birdy did learn some real Dutch...
