Put me down also.  I spent today at Modelmania 2013 in Houston looking for a subject for this GB.  I picked up a couple of 1/72nd scale aircraft, one a Monogram(?) DC-3 airliner, and a C-47 (Italeri).  But I'm not sure if I'm going to do these for the GB.  I may do a diorama instead.  Many will do C-47s, but I would like to see if I can recreate a scene from "The Longest Day" movie.  Might be too difficult, and I'll drop back to the C-47.  So put me down as "Diorama" with "C-47 Alternate".  Thanks!

And as inspiration for everyone, I'll post a link to this video from the West Point Glee Club.  The only thing wrong is that it does not cover Canadian or British forces.

I just started reading this book last week

Its all about the German 352nd Inf Div in the build up and battle for Normandy. Its been pretty good reading so far. And even though i have been reading about the Germans in WW2 for over 20 years, i am still amazed at how disorganised they could be. 

Question: I think I know, but I've never heard it explained. What is the reasoning for the invasion stripes on the airplanes? I think it would be so Allied aircraft wouldn't be shot at by any Allied forces. Is this the only reason or is there more too it?

Yes, they were a recognition mark for Allied aircraft. They wanted to avoid the friendly fire incidents as happened during the Sicily invasion

Oh, sorry!  The diorama is 1/48th scale, though it makes things difficult (and that is why the diorama might get changed to a C-47).  The DC-3 and C-47 are both 1/72nd.  If anyone knows where I can find an M3 White half-track in 1/48 scale, I would be grateful.  M3 half-tracks in ANY scale are rare.

Yes, "Glee Club" is a choir without the religious affiliation (I suppose).  And thanks for the book recommendation.  I need to order some more reading material soon.  As for the Germans being incredibly disorganized sometimes, it was mostly in the higher levels of command.  Not that the allies didn't make mistakes, but they could better afford to.

Sounds great. Maybe with any luck, I'll get mine built this year. Its still on the agenda, but everyone keeps starting these great Group Builds. LOL It's going to be a US Army Air Force base in England in WW2. I'm still planning on using the Jug (except now its going to be the Bubble top) It's going to be the affternoon of June 5th 1944 and the pilot's best friend from home who flies a P 38 has flown in to visit. Hopefully, I can do a better job on the next one.

I'll contribute a B-24 from the 834th Bomb Squadron, 486th Bomb Group.  Academy put out four "zodiac squadron" Liberators a few years ago.  I haven't gotten around to any of them yet.  Scale is 1/72.

Apparently they took part in the D-Day bombings on 6 June, 1944.

glad to have you on board CMK. Indeed they did take part, they attacked Caen, Harcourt and Lisieux on D-day.

Well, I pulled out the AFV Club 1/35th Churchill Mk III AVRE (Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers) and it has decals for two D-Day vehicles so please put me down with her even though the crazy complex suspension system has me holding my head.

Hmmm I would get in on this as I want to do an FW-190A-8 in "Pips" Priller's colours. Not sure what kit yet but it will be in 1/72 scale. Will look for one this week-end and let tou know before the start date.

Apart from some 1/72  Italeri C-47's in my stash I have no other aircraft with D Day markings .

So I may have to venture out of my comfort zone and build something different in 1/72 scale .....

I would like to join in with everyone else with the 1/72 Mach 2 LCT-6 landing Craft with the UM M4A2 Sherman Dozer parked up front with Normandy markings ,

Behind the Dozer will be two Dragon M4A1 Shermans also with Normandy markings ,

Parked behind the Shermans will be Revells M16 halftrack with Normandy markings ,

Along with the Airfix Bren Gun carrier which the side of the box depicts the 51st Infantry Division Normandy June 1944 and a Academy Halftrack with generic markings .

John:  Wow, nice project!  That's going to be some build.

Bish:  Better put me down for the  1/72nd Italeri C-47 in D-Day markings.  Getting parts for the diorama is practically impossible.  Ever look for US Infantry just marching, with rifles slung?    Not in any scale I've found.  If I can locate certain items, I may do it, but at the moment I'm kinda stumped.  I may pick up one of the Waco gliders for the D-Day resupply missions to be towed by the C-47, but that's an "IF".

How long do we have to complete the kit/dio as I am in the GB Steel Cats and it is taking me a bit longer then usual due to all the awesome cats they have displayed (don't want mine to be lacking)

GB runs from 6th June this year to 6th June 2014, so you have a year.

82nd airborne got shot up when they overflew the invasion fleet. all it takes is one gunner to open fire and everyone was antsy anyway. i think the british 1st airborne also took a bunch of freindly flak and released their gliders too soon with many crashing into the sea.

i like the badge with the helmet like the movie poster.

i'm in since i just finished THE THIN BLUE LINE GB should get 3 more finished this month. probably do a 1/35 italeri LCVP in british tri-color camo.
