US CARRIER AVIATION GROUP BUILD 2013
Posted by SchattenSpartan on Monday, April 29, 2013 4:24 PM

Ok folks, this is the first GB I host, so if something is not entirely clear from that first post, feel free to ask me at any time.

I was reading through all that group build titles here on the forum and i noticed there was none about carrier based planes. So i thought I'll just put this one up.

This GB will start on 15th May 2013 and will end on 31st December 2013

The rules are simple:

1) You can build everything, in any scale as long as it matches the following criteria:

  • It must be a plane
  • It must be of a carrier-based design
  • It must be american (markings must resemble a machine used by USN or USMC)

2) You can use aftermarket stuff or not, it depends on you.

3) Crossovers are totally fine

4) Already started kits are no problem, but please only untill the point where the fuselage is glued together

5) Everyone is welcome, no matter how experienced you are!

6) Be nice to each other (I don't think I really have to tell you this Wink)

7) Finish your build in time (no extention here)

8) HAVE FUN EVERYONE!!!

Feel free to grab a badge when you enter this group build!

Thank you for helping me with this, Bish!

Cheers, Clemens

Right, i must be totally out of my skull with what i am already commited to. But i have a couple of US carrier aircraft and i don't have any modern US aircraft built on the shelf. So i will squeeze this in if it kills someone.

Put me down for the Fujimi 1/72nd E-2C Hawkeye. This is the original release and i will be adding some nice folded wings to it.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

OK, ya got me!  I have some Wildcats, Dauntlesses and Devastators, and will commit with one of them, though I'll have to think about which.

I'm doing a an Airfix Devastator for the 1/72 O'Mania GB, and the wing corrugations are enough to make a person manic.  Haven't posted any progress pictures yet over there.

I would absolutely love to join this GB, and while I have the kits, I don't know if I have the time (Already have a Tiger 1, Jaguar and a pair of Aircobras on the bench at the moment).  Let me mull this one over.

*Sigh*  Yeah.  Go ahead and put me in.  I'll either shelve the Jaguar and bust out an F-14, or shelve the Aircobras and do an Avenger, or a Hellcat, or a Dauntless, or a Devastator....*UGH*.  This is a GB I just can't resist.

I'll think about which one I want to do on the ride home..........

Clemens, yeah, BISH is first rate.  More than willing to help, and can take a joke! He has helped me bring out my inner 1/72 self! Stick out tongue  This a great GB Clemens, I am really looking forward to seeing everyone's builds.  I have felt improvements from the 1/72 GB I'm in already.  I think it is a great idea for newbies to jump in and have fun.  Especially when everyone has positive attitudes and comments/suggestions.  It really does help improve ones skill level.  Thanks Clemens!

No problem at all, Eagle!

I'm happy to host this one.

I'll put some Text on the badges and put them up. (I will post the links to the pics too, so one of you guys can make some that look probably better than mine)

Cool Group build Clemens. You sure only American planes allowed? Not arguing, just checking, as I'd like to do a Seafire at some point, but I also have a few Grumman Cats as well.

I'd like to join in this GB

I am having a devil of a time picking an aircraft to model for it, though (and NO, tossing a coin would not help, I would be at that for a week, lol)

right now I have it narrowed down to the F6C on Langley (CV-1) or the Super Hornet on Reagan (76),,,,,,,,,or somewhere in between,,,,,and tail codes between AA and NP

anyway, easy jokes aside, I would like to join, but, will have to decide what to build later on

Welcome to the GB, Rex

I put your name on the list.

Just tell me your project when you have decided... Is the first one the F6C Hawk? Because that would be really interesting.

Cheers, Clemens

Clemens, I was thinking:  would you consider allowing kits of the carriers themselves?

Of course, it's entirely up to you, and I'll be in it for the airplanes, but it just seemed that if someone wanted to build the carrier itself with the aircraft on the deck--that might be nifty.

There are quite a few carrier models around in 1/350 and 1/700, as well as some odd scales.

I didn't do it for any GB, but here's USS Lexington (1/700) with Devastators I did for the 1942 GB.

Anyway, merely a suggestion.  I think the naval carrier aviation GB is a good idea, and I'm glad to take part in it.
