Weathering Question
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, November 12, 2003 2:44 PM
Am building a Tiger Tank and have painted the wheels yellow and the tire areas black. My question is how to deaden the colors so they look worn, especially the black. I know I should know this but on the last couple of efforts the tires look much newer compared to the rest of the paint. Someone let me in on the secretBig Smile [:D] please

Miller, spray some real thinned Tamiya "buff" over the wheels and lower hull to give it a dusty filthy look. Build it up slowly and then what I do is drybrush the tire color back on the the surface of the tire's where they meet the tracks. That way the sidewalls stay "dirty" looking. If you want darker dirt you could add some dark earth maybe? I used the buff on my marder so not sure on that.

edit: Are you going to use washes and or pastels on it? If so, the wash will also dirty it up and some pastels after the flat coat will too.

The plan is based on what I read on this threadBig Smile [:D] I will use pastels for sure, the washes I am unsure of since I am hit and miss with using them.
