T34 Madness
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, November 16, 2003 2:09 PM
Hi all,

Well I must be another one for the T34 nut house:
Im starting with a 1/8th scale T34/85 and converting it to a SU122. So far I have gathered all the necssary armour angles and dimensions and the stage Im on now is making the gun mantle master mould from plaster card and modelling clay with which I will cast the final mantle from glass fibre from. The stage after that will be after some "careful" measurments start to cut the front glacis plate from the 1/8th model so I can fit the new front plate for the SU. By the way this will be a fully working radio controlled model.

Man, that must be a big kit! Can you post any pictures of your progress?

Hi guys,
To answer your questions, first of all Im not too sure weather to have the gun firing or not? if i do I will no doubt use what we call over here in the UK "Crow Scarers" which I guess is the same as a blank firing shotgun.
I am planning to eventually produced a web page on the full conversion but this will no doubt be a while off due to the size of the project, but at the moment as well as still collecting information I am clearing my worktop and gathering materials as and when funds permit. I have already started making some small master moulds for such things as hatches ect but the main work will start just after the Xmas period. I am planning to take some pictures as I go and will if enough people request post them up on this site , if i can work out how too. Which reminds me i must also give my PC a good clear out ready for a large amount of written material.

All the best

Sounds like a great project! I'd like to see pictures of your work as you go also. Are you putting a full interior in it too?

Hi Ron,

No I will not be putting a full interior in, by the time I have fitted the motors and other electrical stuff, batteries ect plus I will need access to it all they will just be no room. If any interior detail at all if I decided to have the hatched open will a figure???? then it will be on the hatch.

Hi dave,

Im use to building large "boys toys" as I use to be a boat builder but I think anybody can acheived anything all within a reasonable price, I mean why does one have to go and buy a brand new motor for a modeller when they are plenty of alternatives out there and half the price and no doubt free if one just looks a little harder.
Another example large scale model body work, does it have to be made from steel or brass? NO just use glassfibre its such a great material to work from and anybody with a little commonsense can preform wonders with it, belive me I have.

All the best
