metal tank tracks
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, February 22, 2003 3:17 PM
Hey guys!!! just wodering if anybody can help me find metal tracks for a tamiya king tiger (ardennes front kit),the molded rubber tracks that come with the kit seem a little cheap on detail.I have heard about metal tracks but i dont know were to find them . Is it worth spending the extra$$$$ or should i spend time on the kit tracks. I have been out of the hobby for many years, just recently started back with armor and i am having a great time.I just fiished a (dragon) sherman, nice kit; tracks were a little tricky for my first tank in over ten years, but they came out ok!! One more thing, how are the metal tracks to assemble, are they glued?or pinned?

Thanks 2fast4uBig Smile [:D]

Hey back at ya!
The metal tracks for the King Tiger are made by a company called Friulmodelismo (or something close to that). They are definitely worth the extra cash and look great. They are pinned just like the real thing and are available from CMD www.chesapeakemodels.com/ These people have some great aftermarket pieces and have always provided me with great service. and now I'll throw a question back at you....which Sherman?

Thank you for your time shermanfreak!! The kit that i built is from dragon,it is the M4A4w/60lb rockets "39-45" series. I did not install the rockets yet, the angle brackets that come with the kit didn't fit the turret very well so i put them aside for a rainy day,and i moved on to the king tiger from tamiya.once again thanks.

Ahhh yes...the M4A4....one of Dragon's kits that is out of production. Wish they'd hurry up and do a re-release of that and some of their other Shermans.

I'd recommend the ModelKasten injection links over the metal. I'm not sure who distrubutes ModelKasten overseas, but they are, in my opinion, the finest aftermarket tracks available. Their new T-55 tracks (for Tamiya) will be out in March, for you Soviet armor fans.
