.50 cal belt links
Posted by kaleu on Sunday, November 16, 2003 10:16 PM
I can't remember if I have asked this question in the past (too much resin dust), but I hope somebody can help. Does anyone know if .50 cal belt links exist in eithe resin or p/e? I'm looking for some flexible links but haven't had any luck finding a set. Does Collector's Brass have a website? Thanks for the help.

Hey Kaleu,

I had the same probelm a couple of projects ago...couldn't find anything, so I ended up making my own belts out of very thin styrene rods. I tapered the ends with my dremel tool, and clued them to a strip of paper. After painting, they actually do look pretty good.

As far as Collector's Brass goes ..... I've never found a web site for them but have found their products elsewhere. VLS used to carry them but now are discontinued, The Barrel Store does carry them but are also in the process of discontinuing them. Here's a link to their catalogue (prices are in Canadian $)

You may also want to check out this kit from AFV Club, not too sure what's all included.

But like Ponch has already pointed out, they are not a tough scratch build project at all.
You may want to give it a try.
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Verlinden products no. 0060 Ammo Belts .30 & .50 Cal 1:35. A PE fret with enough belts to make a couple of 1/35 scale Rambos.

Aber makes a .50 PE set that includes some belts. I've only seen it included in other PE sets, like the M4A1 Sherman and M50 Super Sherman sets. You might want to check their website to see if it's offered separately.

kaleu:
i read about a low tech/low budget way to represent .50 cal mg linx using plastic cable ties... the locking type have these little ridges on one side that look a lot like a belt of ammo....

I've seen belted ammo in several "vehicle" specific PE sets. I bought a "Collectors Brass" .50 cal MG from R&J Products, it is superb, but a little pricey.

Thanks for all the help!! Big Smile [:D]

I had planned on using them on a T-62 as a substitute for DSHK ammunition which I am certain is not available. Thanks again for the advice on where to look and how to make them.

Academy has just released a US machine guns set kit. It consists of Browning .50 cal & .30 machine guns with tripod stands and their ammo belts. Check it out here:

It's injection mold and highly detail.
