My first Tiger
Posted by animal on Tuesday, November 18, 2003 10:25 AM
My first attempt at building the King Tiger/Porsche Turret. I tried to finish it in the winter whiote wash of the the winter if 1945. Any suggestions from the experts on German AFV's would be appreciated.http://community.webshots.com/album/100577057VPjBDw

animal,
The KT looks pretty good from where I sit. I like the whitewash scheme. I want to do a winter scheme but somehow haven't developed the "guts" to do so. Keep up the good work!

I like it. I hope my whitewash scheme turns out as well. How did you do this one?

Dave - how many people do you have on staff in your model building factory. Wink [;)]Wink [;)]
Wasn't it just last week that you were asking about this kit ????

Looks good from here ... my only question is in regards to the markings (and I hope some of the Germanfreaks will jump in on this one because they know far more than me). The markings would have been applied before the the whitewash, so would they be 1) covered by the whitewash or 2) would they have just left the area surrounding the markings in the base camo.

Another fine job Dave. Keep that crew of your employed, it's good for the economy. Wink [;)]Wink [;)]

Thanks for sharing as always.
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Dave, looks good. I'd have raised the question of the markings but Robert beat me to it. I might add that the tools and cables would also have somehow been covered with the whitewash. I'm sure that in '45 they did not have much time to spend removing bits off the vehicles to keep them 'clean'... But then maybe I'm wrong.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions. I think you are right and I will white wash the equipment and markings. It makes more sense this way. Thanks again

I'm not sure about the tools and such. I'll have to check and see if I have anything that shows it. But in the pics I've seen, they usually "painted" the whitewash around with the markings.

According to my New Vanguard King Tiger book, the area around the markings were not whitewashed. Nice job animal.

Great job Animal. One of these days I'm going to try a white wash, right after all the other things I'm going to try one day!

Nice Tiger! Great work, Animal.
I've always thought the Porsche-turreted KT looks great in winter camo.

I should be hearing from you tonight Eric because I think I did a lousy job on the finish. I just can't seem to get it to look like the ref photos and no where near some of the models of the real tigers builders here. I guess I'll stick to my trucks

Dave, you're being far too hard on yourself.
You ventured outside of your comfort area, and that's a good thing.
You tackled one tough paint job, the whitewash is not as easy a task as one would expect and you did just fine with it.
Now have you considered a Sherman yet ???? Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

Tell the truth Animal....This is really one of those wooden mock tanks that movie makers stick on trucks, isn't it?Shock [:O]

Seriuosly, good to see that you have extended your field of expertise, and done such an fine job as well.
