JAGDTIGER BARREL
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, November 18, 2003 8:48 PM
I RECENTLY PURCHASED THE DRAGON HENSCHEL JAGDTIGER KIT AS AN OPEN BOX ITEM AT A HOBBIE SHOP. ONCE I GOT HOME I REALIZED THE BARREL HALVES WERE MISSING, NO PROBLEM ILL ORDER A BRASS BARRELL FROM JORDI RUBIO. COME TO FIND OUT THE JAGDTIGER HAD 2 DIFFERENT TYPES OF 12.8cm GUNS. IVE LOOKED AND LOOKED FOR THE PAK 80 L/55 VERSION OF THIS BARREL EVERYWHERE BUT CAN ONLY COME UP WITH THE SMALLER 44 L/55. DOES ANYONE OUT THERE HAV E ANY POSSIBLE IDEA IF ANY ONE MAKES ONE????? Sad [:(]

Welcome to the forum Nathan.

Someone else may correct me if I am wrong, but I have read somewhere that the 12.8 cm Pak 44 and Pak 80 were actually the same gun, just given two different names.

The second gun often mentioned as being fitted to the Jagdtiger was in fact an 88mm. It was apparently fitted to no more than 6 Jagdtigers (if any, as this is still a matter of conjecture) as the gun mounts for the 12.8 were supposedly not ready at the time.

So Nathan, grab a nice turned Pak 44 and be happyBig Smile [:D]

CMK Hot Barrels makes a Jagdtiger barrel that comes with a resin mantlet. I've got one on my Jagdtiger, looks good.

Nathan, Is this the DML kit with the incorrect barrel configuration? The DML barrel was based on the Aberdeen museum Jagdtiger where the gun is jammed in full recoil. See picture at :
http://www.warbirdpictures.com/ATC/ATC-GermanTiger-4.jpg

The DML barrel and mantlet fitting is therefore incorrectly modelled, and some work needs to be done for fitting a replacement barrel. For a brief reference to this fact see:
http://www.missing-lynx.com/reviews/german/anvilb01.htm

Hope this helps you.

The base of the mantlet is a rough cast, but the portion where the aluminum barrel enters the manlet is cast smooth.

Edit: I got my from Squadron.com, it was stock number CZHB053.
