Tamiya 1/16th Problem
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, November 21, 2003 11:32 AM
Having lurked the forums for a few months, I've finally got myself a 1/16th Tamiya - well chuffed apart from one problem. Every now and then, the tank goes absolutely haywire - all 'mechanisms' switch on - forward, turret move, gun fire - all by itself. It's already caused some 'battle damage'. Thing is this happens intermittantly - sometimes it will run smooth as a proverbial - then suddenly it willl go haywire for a few seconds, and then all is well again. I thought it could be radio interference, but it has happened in a farmers field, with nothing around for a good 500 metres ! Any of you experts got any ideas or advice ?

Cheers

Sounds like a short somewhere in the tank itself maybe the recieving station since that is probably the only place those systems overlap(not sure don't have one and haven't seen wireing schematics). But where those 3 system overlap theres got to be a short.

Just going to state the obvious here:

1. Are the batteries fresh in the transmitter?

2. Are the tanks batteries fully charged?

3. Does it happen at a particular instance? (Turning left, turning right, firing while turning)

This seems like a good subject for the resident expert, WhiteWolf McBride!

It definitely sounds like a short bids33. I would check all the connections in the tank and the transmitter itself, more likely the tank IMO but I'm no R/C expert. You might want to re-post this into the 1/16 Tiger build post as WhiteWolf McBride seems to know a lot about R/C stuff. If not, I'm sure some of the sites he's posted about in there have lots of R/C guys who would probably know what's up. I would check for any loose connections or bare wires in the tank that might be moving around when it's being run first though.

Good luck on it!
