The turret is fairly inaccurate and can stand some detailing. I've built one stock OOB many years ago and am working on a "what if" the Sgt. York made it into production and was later upgraded with the M1 chassis. My conversion is being called the M247A1 Sgt. Major York.

I've got a couple of the Barrel Depot 40mm Bofors aluminum barrels and have upgraded the old Tamiya M1 Abrams hull to that of an M1IP using some bits and pieces from the Academy M1A1 and the Eduard detail set for the Tamiya M1A fittings. Someone also helped me out with a spare set of the Trumpeter M1A1 tracks.

Major Rob,
How about some pics of your in-progress work? The what-if York sounds interesting!

Some in progress shots. Photo quality is fuzzy, sorry for that. I've rebuilt the underside grill detail that is missing on Tamiya M1s. I had to use this kit since it is the only straight M1 on the market.

Edit: that should fix the pix!

Looking good from where I sit! Interesting turret design. How did you do it? Is it totally scratchbuilt, or did you use an existing Sgt. York turret, and then add/subtract from it?

Looking good, Maj Rob. You guys are all so creative! It makes me envious. If I don't have good step by steps, I'm lost!!

I used the Tamiya York turret and accurized it according to photos I could find on the web.
I made some adjustments to storage, fittings and added an M60 to the commander's hatch.
More photos of the in progress conversion are located here:

Nice job, Maj. Rob. Thanks for the additional pictures. Can't wait to see what this guy will look like when he's all finished.
