2.5 ton truck, Korean war
Posted by nsclcctl on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 8:40 AM
If there are any veterans out there, please tell me a bit about this truck. My father in law drove one and I am desperately trying to find one to build for him for Christmas. He was in the signal corps and seemed to drive all over the country. My question is, were there a bunch of variants and what was usually hauled, troops?

Secondly, who has one which approcximates Korea with markings and so forth? I only have 4 weeks to get this and get it built, please help if you know. Thanks.

Most likely the Tamiya GMC 2½ ton 6x6 would be your best bet. Trucks would haul anything from troops to ammo, food, fuel, supplies, etc.

The "deuce and a half" is still an Army staple in the 21st century, albeit in its current form it is a 4x4 cab over design.

The Major is correct, the Tamiya GMC is a great choice. As far as markings, check in the railroad section of your hobby shop for dry transfers, they have tons of sizes and colors, that'll let you make any markings you need. With the vehicle being in the signal corps a load of wire spools and poles and maybe a generator or two with some fuel cans would look pretty cool.

I don't think markings changed much from WWII to Korea. You may need to do a little detective work to find exact numbers for your Dad's unit. If you use dry transfers you can make any bumper number you need. Stars are stars so the ones in the kit should work just fine.
