My first pics
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 11:20 PM
Hi guys. This is my second kit since coming back to the hobby. Please be gentle. I just wanted some feedback to see what I can do to improve and continue learning. Thanks for the help.

Looks pretty good. Might could dirty it up a little to knock off some of the shine. Good looking build though.

Looks really good jjensen! I think a little more weathering would improve it some but you did a great job on the build. Keep up the good work and keep posting the photos!!

Looks good, JJ and for only your second kit too!

Here is my suggestion:

I would drybrush some steel around the edges (also on handles, hatches and so forth) anywhere there might be some heavy use and footpaths. I wouldn't go too heavy on it, just enough to make it look a tad worn. If you do go a bit heavy on it, you can counter the effect with a VERY LIGHT drybrushing of rust (or something simular) over it. That way, it will look like the metal was bare at one point and just began rusting. You can then dull coat over it.

Ditto on what Erock suggest. I also mix some sand color paint and flat clear to make a dirty /dusty effect. I paint the areas that I want to have dust to appear. Don't put it on too thick Very thin works the best. Now my trick is to follow with flat clear and a wide soft brush and paint over the dirt to move the dirt into the cracks and in around the sides. This will move the "dirt" and leave a dirty overall appearance and thicker areas where the wind would have blown the dust to gather in creavis's. I use this same technique for dirty tires also. It is quick and easy.

Thanks guys! Great tips for the weathering. I will do that when I get home from the holidays. It is a pleasure to be a part of this forum. So many great ideas and great people. It was a little scary to put these pics here, but you guys made it well worth it. Hope you all had a lot of turkey and pumpkin pie!! Go Huskers!

I echo the other comments. Fine build, I like the job you did on the ax handle.
